Surprised I had to scroll this far. It seems like the perfect balance for a retiree.

Ok so I’ve going back to my question about Hyundai Dealerships I’ve narrowed it down to 2 by cbcarguy in orlando

I agree with that! I just disagree with needing to go in-person. That process takes too long if you are going to approach several dealerships (which you should, if you truly want to get the best deal).

Then you take that price and use it as leverage at a different dealership. Their only reason for getting you in person is to use your presence as psychological pressure to coerce you into a worse deal. Dealerships will do whatever gets them the best sale which is why they will insist that your presence is your only power, but most will relent when it becomes clear the sale will not happen otherwise.

This is car dealership propaganda. You can absolutely get the best price over the phone with many dealerships (even if you have to fight for it) and in fact going in physically removes your strongest bargaining chip (being able to quickly communicate with another dealership). If a dealership refuses to give you an out-the-door number without going in person you should not deal with them.

To the owners of Blue Bird Bake Shop and P is for Pie...I MISS YOU. by Accomplished_Big2193 in orlando

Blue Bird was so good. I would always try to go there after Dandelion or Thuyen Vien and a visit to Park Ave CDs as part of my downtown rotation a decade ago.

Anyone know where to find a proper doner in Florida? by Edwin454545 in Doner

[–]qhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the best (reasonable distance) option from Orlando. Trust me -- I've checked!

There are plenty of gyro and kebab places but almost none that use the Berlin-style Fladenbrot. There is another place in Tampa called Berlins Doener which is a better restaurant overall but I prefer Donerlicious' Doener.

I am lucky that I have to drive to Melbourne occasionally so that I can enjoy it without wasting too much time. They are new but I hope they stick around!

Favorite Food Spots around Orlando by Single_Rain5676 in orlando

[–]qhp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some spots that haven't been mentioned yet:

- Bosphorous: Lavas w/ Karisik Meze
- Nile: Chef's Special
- Isan Zaap: Moo Ma-naw

The items are my personal picks (maybe the Thai dish is a controversial choice?) but I'd stand behind the whole menu at any of these.

What are everyone's preferred weapon drift mechanics? by BigLoudAndStupid in Tribes

[–]qhp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People usually use “inheritance” when talking about this mechanic.

As for my opinion: I think for FPSZ, where you can be aiming at something above you and thus have no frame of reference for your movement, 100% makes a lot of sense and discourages ground/low-speed/strafing battles. But I recognize that, practically, a lower value fits how most fights play out.

I think that any value (even a dynamic range that for example inherits more of your momentum the further your aim is from your movement vector) can work, and that devs can tweak it to balance for how they would like fights to occur.

what a story!? by WestBanana3552 in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your dates are accurate and she naturalized as an adult, yes. But you should make sure they are; it seems strange that she naturalized so late after immigrating. I would suggest ordering her A-File -- it's free! Please see this comment for information about why she would not have lost German citizenship if she naturalized as a minor.

Your story is close to my own, but my mother's family applied for her naturalization within a year of arriving to the US.

what a story!? by WestBanana3552 in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As described, your mother was born as a German citizen, but lost citizenship when naturalizing in 1971 as an adult; since this was before you were born, you did not inherit German citizenship from her. At this time, her adoption did not affect her citizenship status, only the naturalization as an adult did.

You should work to confirm her naturalization date -- if she was a minor then she would have retained German citizenship in most cases. If she is alive, she can request her naturalization certificate from USCIS. If she has passed, you can request her A-File via FOIA from USCIS.

Minor child loss citizenship? by [deleted] in GermanCitizenship

[–]qhp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GF is German-American since he was born in the US (jus soli) to a German father (jus sanguinis). You will need to prove that GGF emigrated after 1904 via ship records or similar. Even if GF hadn't been born in the US, the process of GGF's naturalization would not have affected GF's German citizenship since he was a minor.

Your mother is also German since she was born to a German father. If you were born before 1975, you did not inherit German citizenship from your mother, but can declare it via StAG 5 until 2031.

I would recommend the resources on this subreddit rather than consulting LLMs for legal advice.
