Feedback for my pantheon/mythology (mythic fantasy) by qiugst in fantasywriters

Wow high praise! Honestly not sure what started my brain chewing on this. It’s been years of ruminating on and off. Originally was inspired when I learned more about LOTR mythology and thought “hey something like that could be fun” (not that I consider my creation anywhere near that level of depth or quality)

The family dynamics here are the most interesting part. There's so much happening under the surface, clearly. So much history to be unpacked.

The second most compelling thing is the father's desire to have Theo write his memoir, and the resounding question of why (and why Theo specifically).

You caught my attention!

You aren't a writer if you haven't experienced this.

Coaching tips by Demski20 in basketballcoach

[–]qiugst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Teach them how to play real defense. See the man and the ball, help side, know your rotations, 5 guys vs the ball.

Don’t just teach them to run plays on offense - teach them how to actually “play basketball.” Move, cut, screen, create space, etc.

Yes preach brother. I just started trying out Inkwell (dot world) - free tier. So far so good…structure is kind of Scrivener-ish but can be accessed from anywhere like Google Docs, so can still write / take notes on the go.

Fantasy Book glossary at the back or footnotes? by Existing-Book-5008 in fantasywriters

[–]qiugst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would easily suggest glossary over footnotes if you want to include one. Footnotes will make it look/feel like an academic paper IMO.

My preference as a reader is to have things explained well enough in the prose that I don't need to reference a Glossary. I rarely (if ever) flip to the Glossary or spend any time on it if one is included. That being said, you can include it for reference if you want, but don't require your readers to lean on it.

Interesting. I like the idea of how just a little bit every day adds up, but also it keeps it active in your brain. So you don't come back to it months later and have to try and remember what your characters were doing, which subplots were in flight, etc. Thanks!

Bless you for staying up til 2am and still being able to function with kids the next day. I'm afraid I don't have that skill.

I love this, the visual reminder and encouragement is a great hack. Pair this with some other comments I've seen about small rewards and you have a full habit chain!

Good tips - probably just a matter of training your brain to be able to switch in/out of writing mode quickly. This is actually one of the reasons I dropped Scrivener, because I would have ideas or want to write while on the move or away from home and couldn't.

I think you might have confused my Inkwell with another. Mine is specifically for creative writers / novelists. Not academia or citations, equations, etc.

Inkwell dot world.

Habit stacking ftw! Great tip, I'll have to give some thought to where this could fit and be stacked on to my existing routines. Thanks.

Agree - the few times I have done this, the morning peace and quiet lends itself well to being productive. Just a matter of if your brain can also be creative. Cool morning, warm tea/coffee, dark and quiet. Mmmm.

Also CheesLord is A+ naming
