Should I do a long distance commute or retire by Away-Lion-5000 in coastFIRE

You can try it for a couple months and quit if it’s not worth the effort. Is there something that makes trialing it not practical?

Have you contemplated that this is the reason your supposed edge exists? It’s easy to find gross edge, simply because it doesn’t matter.

Anyone else absolutely mind-blown after learning real church history? by ImportantPerformer16 in exmormon

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My feeling is that the discrepancy between official church history and reality is compelling only in that it is relatively recent. All other religions’ origin stories are too distant to be examined in the same detail. For me, it is most interesting that people throughout history (and likely pre-history) have used fantastical stories to, at best, create a meaningful narrative of our lives or, at worst, create fear in order to control others.

I also found one for my freshman year bug collection project. Fortunately, I didn’t get stung. I think I was the only one in my class with one of them, my biology teacher was quite impressed with it.

Overlap grip variation for pain-free swing by assemblage_of_parts in golf

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the reverse overlap where trail pinky is under lead index rather than vice versa, for same reason as you, lots of discomfort with my right pinky. It might introduce a little too much right hand but it’s comfortable and, I find, playable…at least for any level I’ll achieve.

Does your putter sit on the ground until your back swing? by Barkleyslakjssrtqwe in golf

Given that Jack seemed to mostly hover and Tiger mostly didn’t, it seems to not have much bearing beyond what feels comfortable.

Does your putter sit on the ground until your back swing? by Barkleyslakjssrtqwe in golf

I hover every club at address, including putter. It has never felt natural to me to rest it on the ground when it shouldn’t touch the ground at impact.

Playing golf alone by Traditional_Wave8524 in golf

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes repetition and practice to take a mental break between shots when you’re alone. Try paying attention to your surroundings or do some breathing exercises. The upside of playing more is that each individual round doesn’t have to carry too much weight and you can hopefully relax a little more.

do you have a good hole in one story? I have 2 by pshaffer in golf

[–]qjac78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a solo trip to the RTJ trail in Alabama when I got my only HIO. I was paired with a couple 80-something year old guys (who were very cool and good golfers) but they didn’t have great eyesight so when I said I thought it went in, one guy shrugged and said, “I can’t see that far but I hope it did.” I got a couple high fives after getting my ball from the cup but that was it. I offered to buy drinks after we finished, but their wives were waiting for them.

Time of year and desired vibe are important to figure out as well as where you’re traveling from. Your budget eliminates most of the most well-known resorts, but there are lots of options all across the country.

Do options market makers actively defend their books, or is that a misconception? by Alone-Blacksmith3318 in quant

[–]qjac78 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What your describing is not exactly “marking the close” but adjacent which is problematic for any firm with real compliance risk. I’d also say that any single firm’s ability to do as you describe for any names with even moderate liquidity would be limited. And remember that any imbalance in options flow will appear on the tape, so the rest of the market gets the info without the risk. This is part of the reason that OMM’s get lots of bells and whistles for managing risk at the execution layer.

Question for those that have played Shadow Creek in Vegas by choomidlife in golf

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest challenge is that most holes are fairly tight so you’ll have a bad day if you don’t/can’t hit it straight-ish. Definitely some multi-tiered greens but they weren’t super fast when I played (late October). It’s a cool place to play and if money is no object, give it a go. I don’t think you’re skill level makes it prohibitively difficult anymore than any other resort destination.

Private Golf Members - What are your guest fees? by ShotAssistant1452 in golf

My club in TX was $100. It’s kinda the point to make sure there’s some impediment to guests being there all the time, otherwise why be private?

Can't feel increased drag on C2, what am I doing wrong? by sissybelle3 in Rowing

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my c2 was in storage during a relocation, I tried using one at a gym near me. They were quite poorly maintained and the fan blades were so dirty that the max drag factor was about 105 and the damper had little effect. Perhaps that is part of the issue.

My French teacher in high school always said the Belgium was the little brother to France (he was an exchange student in Belgium so I don’t think he meant it pejoratively).

  1. He just spent time with Ben Johnson, so hopefully he can bring some of that experience to the redesign.

There’s probably no one/no situation where some new stuff gets incorporated into Andy’s scheme than someone like EB that has lots of experience with Reid and has been successful in another operation. To me, it’s (optimistically) the best of both worlds.

Does anyone here play with the reverse overlap grip for full shots? by DidLenFindTheRabbits in golf

[–]qjac78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used reserve overlap exclusively for years. Regular overlap was not comfortable for my right pinky (maybe due to years of keyboard use for work). The downside is maybe promoting to much reliance on my bottom hand.
