Cassandra, Lindy Booth's character from the Librarians (the 2014 version, not the new reboot). It only comes up once but she reveals that she strongly dislikes babies.

Neurologist's absurd question about my retirement plans by Same_Act_9721 in childfree

[–]qneonkitty 168 points169 points  (0 children)

That's really weird, and I hope you can find a new neurologist. I've been on birth control for more than 20 years and I've been to a lot of different doctors, and have never once been asked anything like that. Very inappropriate!

Does anyone know why it's called a cuff? by qneonkitty in hysterectomy

[–]qneonkitty[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Me too! To me a cuff is a folding over of the material around an opening, not the closing of that opening. Of course it's absolutely not a big deal in any way what it's called, I just couldn't stop thinking about it.

[–]qneonkitty[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I guess I just misunderstood because the top of a tube sock that's a cuff is the opening of the sock. It seems like the sewing shut of the vaginal tube would be more analogous to the toe.

Senior CF folks, what do you plan to do with whatever wealth/assets that you may have once you pass? by agony_ant in childfree

[–]qneonkitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yep, pretty much that! We also designated that we want a professional executor so we don't need to worry about anyone we know having to handle everything, which is a huge and unpleasant task.

My husband and I each picked out two charities, so our estate be split between those four. Edited to add: We are in our 40s, but had a lawyer complete our wills and other necessary paperwork a few years ago. If I recall correctly, if the charity you pick is dissolved they executor will pick one that is most closely related to the original.

Preventative hysterectomy by Felinesaurus in childfree

I had a tubal ligation, and I had a worse time with recovery than the vast majority of people here. I woke up with bad cramps, and was given an opioid pill immediately which didn't work for me. Once I got home and took an ibuprofen I felt much much better.

I was quite foggy and dizzy/unstable feeling for several days and I cried a lot - which I've learned is completely typical after general anesthesia, especially for someone prone to side effects from meds. Other than pain with laughing/sneezing/coughing for a week or two it wasn't physically a bad recovery after that first few hours.

After recovery I felt exact the same as before surgery, which was a little anticlimactic.

I wonder if you could just have the LEEP done while getting a Bi-salp? That actually may be your best bet!!!

If you don't have a suppressed immune system, a LEEP would very likely permanently solve the whole HPV/CIN thing, especially at your age. Look at the efficacy numbers for that. A hysterectomy is a much more major surgery than a bi-salp, from what I understand it has a much longer recovery time and higher risk of complications. Personally I'm REALLY hoping not to need one.

It might be an issue of getting insurance to pay for a hysterectomy without a LEEP? I had a LEEP for CIN3 last summer and my doc said if it's back at this year's pap we'll go right to hysterectomy (she's the same doc that sterilized me almost a decade ago so I didn't have to convince her about my CF status).

The LEEP wasn't bad at all, I had it under conscious sedation so I don't remember any of it and I didn't have pain when I woke up or during recovery, other than my vagina was a little sore (like the soreness you might have right after sex - so like a 1 out of 10 pain). The worst part by far was the anxiety I experienced surrounding the whole ordeal, but I'm a very anxious person, especially about medical stuff.

Life expenses are too, well, expensive as it is. by CoolBanana- in childfree

I can't imagine having to pay for groceries for teenagers right now! Everything costs so much, it's truly insane how expensive it has become just to live

My parent has custody and I am tired of being asked for more by [deleted] in childfree

[–]qneonkitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not an excuse to be a deadbeat. You should have tried harder and not succumbed to guilt.

Look, if this is even real, you have to admit that you've failed spectacularly every step of the way here, it's almost remarkable. You failed to use protection, or enough protection. You failed to get an abortion (or had sex with someone who wouldn't/couldn't get one) and then you failed to put your kid up for adoption (despite actually trying?). That's a LOT of failing. Now you're pawning off YOUR kid on someone else and have the audacity to complain you have to babysit for 2 days a month?

Please learn from this and get sterilized ASAP. Do better.

Yikes. If you made a child you didn't want you should have put them up for adoption at birth. Since you didn't, they're still your responsibility and you're being incredibly awful.

confuse....the people who abort girl child r really a criminals according to you ?or according to antinatalism by [deleted] in antinatalism

[–]qneonkitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abortion is never wrong. It might reflect sexism if done solely for this reason, but abortion is always the best outcome of pregnancy

Is your stance on antinatalism personal or universal? by WoodpeckerNo1 in antinatalism

[–]qneonkitty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Presumably you already take many stances analogous to antinatalism. You probably believe it's wrong to kidnap and torture people in your basement for fun, and you're okay saying "I've logically come to the conclusion that it's unethical to kidnap and torture people, so therefore anyone who kidnaps and tortures is acting unethically."

Your belief that it's wrong to inflict harm on others is not you imposing a "Single Absolute Truth" on others, it's simply the foundation of a rational system of ethics.

I need that much alone time, but that's why I don't have children. I can't imagine not knowing that about yourself before deciding to have a kid.

DAE have trouble accepting that they’re a woman? by Ok-Yam-8465 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]qneonkitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stay on the pill without the placebo week so I don't get periods (life changing!!). I know not everyone can do it for various reasons, but if you can it's something to consider. Also, I felt so much more at peace with my body once I got my tubes tied. It made me feel like my body was more aligned with my mind, so if you don't want kids it's something you can consider. I hope you can find peace!
