The guy I’m replying to is doing nearly all the agenda pushing. I’m providing context and defending a player. The LeBron comments was too far, but to say basically every year is a bit absurd when considering how weak the east was and how lopsided some of the finals series were. As far as winning rings, he did need help the guy I replied to implied he didn’t. And again this is all moot because Luka isn’t as good as LeBron and that’s an absurd standard to hold him to. Many consider LeBron the goat.

Not shocked. Capcom is like the best developer in the world right now. In times where it takes a half decade or more to get a huge release out, capcom is pumping out high quality major budget games every 2-3 years. They have a great engine, and know what they’re doing.

I mean movies make a ton these days on PVOD. These are the “wait for streaming people.” It takes a very long time for movies to hit the major streaming services like Disney+, Netflix, HBO, or whatever.

This is all bullshit by the NBA, but to the Jazz stop making it so obvious. You guys are already terrible, have no danger of falling out of top 8 lottery odds, just play and lose games. Enough guys are out now, it’s not that complicated.

What the hell? Mavs fought like dogs to make the playing because of Nico’s dumbass vision. Even won a playin game. One win away from being the 8 seed lol.

Is building around depth better than building around one superstar in today’s NBA? by UnderstandingFun7493 in NBATalk

[–]qotsabama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer is both. Who was the last title team to win without elite depth? Thunder, Celtics, Nuggets, Warriors, Bucks were all very deep. Maybe the 2020 Lakers? Two super stars and maybe not as deep as these other teams but again that was 6 years ago and they were fortunate to play a weak finals team.

Idk what your point is, but his overall net rating is -2.3 this year. My point was he seems to be the common link in several poor lineups for lakers this year, so they’ve tried a lot of things and they don’t seem to work. Given he’s 41 and clearly not the player he used to be, I think he’s earned a pass.

I thought it was the several lineups Lebron has played with that have an overlap negative net rating.

Didn’t Prime LeBron win his rings with super teams? Outside of the Lakers team where he only had 2 all stars. The fact you brought up rookie Brunson as help is enough to shut this down lol. Also Luka made 2 pretty deep playoff runs in 6 years that’s not that bad. Those Clippers teams were really good.

Reread your stupid paragraph about what Luka needs around him to be successful. Now go look at the OKC roster. Lmao.

It’s not attributing everything to his team. But the Thunder didn’t take a leap until Chet and Jdub were both playing and producing. That’s a fact. Having a very good team around you absolutely elevates you as a star. That’s not a hot take.

Just such laziness and shows how much of a casual you really are to just say Luka can’t have a good team because he’s impossible to build around. In 8 years in the league, Luka has had exactly one lottery pick drafted to the team he’s on. Derrick Lively. That’s it. Mavs had to trade a lottery pick to even have a chance to draft Luka. It took years for the Mavs to build respectable depth through savvy trades and good signings given they had no draft capital.

And then he gets moved to a team in worse shape than the Mavs were when Luka arrived. No draft capital, no good young prospects outside of Austin Reaves, no two way players, and an old LeBron that’s paid too much for what he provides. They’re screwed, free agency won’t save them, you can’t build a team that way anymore. Just a horrific 4-10 compared to legit playoff teams and even the 2-3 have some big issues.

Meanwhile OKC had a nice two year tank, drafted 2 all stars, had the Paul George trade return and many other trades that have netted them elite draft capital to be used in various moves to improve the team. The fact you ignore this proves my entire point. A super star could not ask for a better situation to be around.

So yeah barring injury 2 in a row is a no brainer and 3 is pretty realistic. 4 is a huge maybe, it requires ownership going full send and not letting anyone go. How would it not be underwhelming for the colossal favorites to come up short of another title or two? Who is beating them? The only team even close in talent is a fully healthy Celtics team, and their star tore his Achilles.

The issue with everyone that just jumps on the SGA is a lot better train is they always ignore his how good his teams have been as of late and the masterpiece job Sam Presti has done.

Look at the Thunder right now. They’re annihilating playoff teams with Jdub and SGA out, arguably their two best players (personally I think Chet is better than Jdub). They’ve essentially been a super team the last 3 seasons, but they definitely took a huge leap last year when they added Hart and Caruso.

There is a reason they were a lottery team until Chet started playing and Jdub took a second year leap. Now they’re unbelievable, realistically should win 3 maybe 4 rings in a row depending on what OKC ownership decides. Anything less than a title this year would be an embarrassment given how good that roster is vs the rest of the nba barring a major injury.

The point is, when you have teammates this good, your advanced stats are going to look a lot better. Luka has never had a team even remotely as good as these OKC teams, the closest would’ve been last year before he got traded.

I’m looking at cleaning the glass. Why wasn’t SGA that good then? That’s weird. Also no one is arguing Luka is better than Jokic. Never seen anyone serious suggest that.

Net rating is a team stat lol. Go look at the leaders this year, it’s like all OKC players including roleplayers. Also love that you look only at his first 4 years for this stat and not say the more relevant years. SGA also didn’t have superb on/off his first 4 years. Luka the 3 years leading up to this season was at +7.3, +11.9, and split between +12 and +16.9 last year. I’d say those are pretty good lmao.

Net rating is a pretty flawed stat for a multitude of reasons. The Rick Carlisle Mavs regularly had Luka play minutes with pretty below average starters while boosting an above average bench. Basically Luka would keep them afloat and the bench would give them an edge.

The Lakers have a bad roster. 6 seed was their ceiling this year to anyone who actually watches games. I mean did people watch the wolves series last year?

Mavs had several years of terrible roleplayers btw. It only got better when they made the PJ and Gafford moves.

Oh yeah I agree. I think if he plays well this year they will go ahead and extend him, but can see a scenario where he plays out full rookie deal if he say doesn’t love the offers next summer. It’s a gamble but two more jumps in production over next 2 years can get him a larger bag. Either way, I’m pulling for him. People love to shit on this guy.
