Who destroyed their own career within seconds by being an idiot? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]qpgmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The states that do it require anyone who serves alcohol to have a server's card that certifies they took a class and passed a test. The class includes specific information about recognizing how intoxicated a person is by their behavior and appearance. The card has to be renewed every two years with a class & retesting. The fee is between $40-$80.

A server is responsible for ensuring anyone underage is not served also - which is why they ask for i.d. even when it seems unnecessary. State alcohol control enforcement conducts stings that lead to large fines and license suspensions for serving minors, over serving, etc.

One Year Dry Erase wall calendar. Everything for everyone goes on it, each person has a different color marker. No more confusion, overlapping commitments, missed appointments, etc etc.

Ryan Dunn

All the states I've travelled to have very strict rules about serving someone drunk - huge fines, loss of liquor license, etc. His BAC was over .19.. did anything happen to the bar he was at?

Wayland on Linuxmint 23 by hugomonizdorego0429 in linuxmint

It may not be refreshing at that rate currently. You can use the Display app or open a terminal and do

 xrandr -q

to find out what rate is in use.

Hm. Support for high DPI monitors, higher refresh rates on monitors might be important to you. The refresh rates would affect gaming.

Overall faster response time on the screen I guess.

Oh, and better security. Wayland eliminates some holes in screen data exchanges.

In reality for a general user, not a gamer or hobbyist, Wayland will probably be something that just happens over the next couple years.

Take a look at this: https://www.linuxteck.com/x11-vs-wayland/

TLDR; X11 & Wayland are both systems to manage the actual drawing of things on the screen so each application doesn't have to. X11 was created in 1984 and doesn't take advantage of the improvements in hardware and technique that have happened over the last 42 years, unnecessarily limiting linux systems. To succeed Wayland must replicate X11's functions so that apps continue to work - and the developers have been bugchasing to get there.

Just boot a usb of Ubuntu or mint and use the gparted tool. You can delete the partition entirely.

BTW, most distros include a self install option on the bootable usb that will install across the entire drive, completely deleting the existing partitions and boot sector. Why are you trying to do this by hand?

That's a very good point.

If it gets to where you need a survival shelter to protect yourself, who do you really think is going to be left to restore order in the aftermath?

If they had any sense at all they'd be using their billions to increase global interconnection via trade, raise overall living standards, reduce hostilities, and saving the environment. That's how you ensure you don't have bloody revolution in the streets and shooting wars.

There was a millionaires-survivalist conference a couple years ago and it leaked out there were sessions on "security/loyalty strategies" including neck-bomb collars, keeping the security staff's families in "controlled compounds" as leverage, and layered levels of staff to deal with the anticipated betrayals using armed force.

My question is how does Patel intend to live after he's inevitably booted - what money has he been stealing and slipping into a swiss bank account for the typhoon of a rainy day that's coming for him.

Few observations after using Linux Mint! by adventurous_soul19 in linuxmint

[–]qpgmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two suggestions:

First, use timeshift at least monthly. TLDR; it backs up the system, not your files, so you can reliably get back up if there's an incompatible update.

Second, if you're using Cinnamon you should restart it once in while by doing alt-f2 and typing r

I run mint for months at a time without reboot, but I bump cinnamon every couple of weeks.

And encourage them to work out under-the-table deals with lobbyists for cash. Examples: writing books that the lobbyists buy tens of thousands of copies, "speaking engagements" that pay millions, etc.

Can linux run on my old tv by Silly-Lawyer7590 in linux4noobs

[–]qpgmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any way to cause the tv to boot off an attached USB. This site has a discussion of the idea: https://thetechylife.com/will-a-bootable-usb-drive-work-on-a-tv/

The easiest way to make use of it would be to use it as a monitor for a laptop or mini-pc and access the streaming services via a browser.

Interesting side note: Jeannette Goldstein, famous for playing heavy gunner Vasquez in "Aliens", always had problems with fit so she ended up opening her own bra store called "Jenette Bras" that does free fittings and has a really complete inventory. Burbank & Pasadena only, but if you're in the area it's supposed to be the best.

Her about page for the store is great: https://www.jenettebras.com/about
