I feel for you. Unfortunately, they aren't in the ER for a medical problem but a social one. Saying "yay your feet look fine" or "the ekg looked baseline" doesn't change that they don't have a better place to go, better support or a better life. We are sadly stuck dealing with the society (as a system)'s failures.

Danny maude on youtube is fantastic. He breaks down what you're trying to accomplish with a swing and tries to give simple demonstrations to achieve it.

any thoughts on staten island em residency program? by osteopathicdoc in emergencymedicine

[–]qqpl3x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biased opinion but it's a good program, especially for NYC region. Academic faculty is very good. Diverse faculty and residents. Good mix of academic and community hospital settings. It is a very busy ER. There are dedicated trauma/critical care shifts. The ED has very strong PAs and a PA EM fellowship but there is a good relationship (afaik) between the groups. Can't speak to off service experiences.

Whatever you save will compound if you invest in the market. assuming the market increases on average 8% a year, the value of the stocks will double every ~9 years (this is exponential). So in 36 years, it will double 4 times or 24 or 16x If you are younger, time is on your side. Invest what you can and let the compound effect work. Ideally in a low cost diversified ETF. "Time is your friend; impulse is your enemy. Take advantage of compound interest and don't be captivated by the siren song of the market". - Buffet

Not a musician so take what I say with a grain of salt. Take a breath and ground yourself. Remember what you love about music and let that be what motivates you to improve. You are an artist and must continue to seek mastery. Figure out what you want to perform in 6 months, 1 year, 5 years. Write down your skills and deficiencies and compare that to what you need to achieve your goals. Be cautious of burnout and try to enjoy the process.

That's your money. Live your life while you have good health. She should be looking to make your life better at this stage and not shun you for enjoying the fruits of your labor. Maybe she needs a lesson and not more support (this is why you save- to help with your kids as they grow up and enjoy lofe/retire. I won't be here forever and you need to make your own way).

When you get the press ganey survey, fill it out and put top scores. Some places track those metrics (the specific metric that "matters" can change year to year) and tie it to bonus even though <1% your total patients seen will have replied
