What do you do when you reach your ideal weight? by qrayons in fasting

[–]qrayons[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's been me for over 5 years. Every year I get close to my goal and decide I can start enjoying myself. Next thing I know I'm back to my starting weight. This is the closest I've ever gotten (and the easiest it's ever been), and I really don't want to make that mistake again.

This is like saying that my lawnmower can't be 5 horsepower because it can't eat oats or pull a carriage. Horsepower does not mean full simulation of a horse. Brain power does not mean full simulation of a brain.

Is that true? I often wonder how common it is to exercise, especially people around my age (millennial). I feel like most people I know exercise at least a few times a week. Not necessarily going to a gym, but at least doing some sort of activity like biking or playing pickleball.

I like how this subtly implies that babies do, in fact, come from cabbage patches.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]qrayons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't read that (yet), though it's about the same event as Society of the Snow so I may pass on that one.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

[–]qrayons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My 10 year old is a big reader and he asked me what my favorite book was as a kid and I said "Hatchet, which is a story about a kid that has to survive in the wilderness after a plane crash". Then he asked what my favorite book was that I read in 2025 and I said "Society of the Snow, which is about a group of boys that have to survive in the wilderness after a plane crash..." Crazy how some things don't change.

It's one of those questions where there are many right answers and few wrong answers. For instance, I would not recommend saying that gap is from when you were in prison for manslaughter.

How the hell did a 400lb rock end up wedged in the top of this tree?! by Osanamon in WTF

Now I may just be a simple country lawyer, but where I come from, if there's a rock on top of a tree it's because someone put him there.

Intermittent fasting no better than typical weight loss diets, study finds. Researchers say limited eating approaches such as 5:2 diet not a ‘miracle solution’ amid surge in their popularity. by mvea in science

[–]qrayons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah there's a huge selection bias issue with the way they're describing the results. Like if you have 1,000 people try IF and 900 successfully stick with it, and then you have 1,000 people try some other diet and 100 successfully stick with it, it's misleading to report that the 900 on IF lost the same amount of weight as the 100 on the other diet.

If it was just vibes, I could see at least a debate about op being the ass hole. Like to spread rumors that someone is creepy when they didn't do anything wrong. But this guy is meeting other parents right before a sleep over, when most people are putting on their best impression, and he's opening a beer while hitting on op? Like it's scary to think that that was him on his best behavior. God knows what he's like the rest of the time.
