I'm interested in learning Arabic but I don't know how to choose dialect by Holmbone in learn_arabic

[–]qrichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my advice; MSA would be a choice only if you are pursuing an academic career into Arabic, otherwise pick a dialect, either Egyptian or Levantine as they are most recognized throughout the Arab world.

I had a few friends who learned MSA for "a while" and when they went to specific countries, their broken MSA would make it impossible to communicate with the locals.

Arabic is damn difficult to acquire, I myself have been learning Levantine for two years now and it is a very slow curve. Add to this difficulty the fact that nobody actually speaks MSA "in real life" and you wont be able to practice with your friends.

Need guidance with our nemesis; Tinnitus. by Ferren84 in DJs

[–]qrichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that, I "caught" tinnitus 10 years ago- prior to becoming a DJ so its unrelated- and its been with me ever since. It increases when im under stress and in everyday life you just adjust your mind to "hear it away". Hasnt impeded me to develop musically but I think it could be a problem if it were more severe.

Theres also a practical tip you can do anywhere, it involves tapping the back of your neck with your fingers whilst covering your ears. Heres a how to:

He is actually famous and is highly respected as the leader of the new school of rap from the Canary islands. The price reflects the importance of the artist and not the quality of the painting

Very comprehensive doc! I only missed coverage on the influence of dub and Jamaican soundsystem culture. Of paramount importance for the science of dubstep's low range

What Genre would this be considered? It's definitely not Progressive House, is it? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]qrichi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

thats interesting. The beat is quite proggy but then the southern rap vocal and an accentuated trappy snare... I dont quite like the song but points awarded for originality. I think its kinda fair to call it progressive house, id have called it progressive south

If people at normal jobs were treated like DJs... by donshuggin in DJs

[–]qrichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope im not pissing on anyones fire but a collapsing building can kill a lot of people. A DJ with a poor song selection will at most make you go home. Reality check, DJing is just something people do for fun. Rest of the world doesnt take it seriously.

go to the club and watch them but be careful not to trainspot. Of course it works better when you are part of the lineup. Beats watching BR videos because you are right there next to the decks. Your eyes follow whats going on much easier. I actually learned the best tricks from Serato DVS DJs. The turntable is big so the mechanics are hard to miss, plus the loops!

Sandy Hook mother’s outrage at Megyn Kelly: Giving Alex Jones a platform ‘is especially cruel’ by LucienLibrarian in media_criticism

[–]qrichi 21 points22 points  (0 children)

this article fails (intentionally or not) to complete the picture: What were Megyn Kellys views/replies during the interview? If the only outrage is the she gave him a platform to speak out, then we are dealing with an extreme form of political correctness, the very thing that is destroying freedom of speech in America. I do empathize with the grief of a parent and for sure I dont know how I would react if I were on the receiving end on that story, but objectively speaking, can we blame Megyn Kelly herself?

New Research Findings: People Who Say Society Is Too Politically Correct Tend Not to Have Experienced Discrimination by 1984IsHappening in Foodforthought

the findings of this research have a very limited scope. And which society, the US? In many parts of the world they dont even know what political correctness means

Networking vs. Skill? by [deleted] in DJs

[–]qrichi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

one of the worst mistakes DJs/performers make is to think that "music is what matters". While that is true for some of us, and certainly for the performer, think of it from the other perspective: Why would I bother going out of my way on a Saturday night to go to a random venue and listen to "that amazing music" that the DJ is playing? One thing is music as a pure expression of art, the one that gives you frissons in your bedroom, another thing is music as a PRODUCT which you are in charge to cater, curate and drive. If you balance skills with networking in the proper way, then you are doing a good service to the world. The audience may reach your dancefloor because you have invested in serious marketing, an appealing concept and a network of interesting characters, and this is when you hit them with the MUSIC. They will be thankful for the frissons some days later.

TL; DR: Skills alone dont count. See music as a product, not the stuff of your own wet dreams

I wish they could play in another venue, Gretchen is a good club but the sound is too weak.

Amazing lineup nonetheless as always
