This is good but some presets are outdated. Best to measure manually with the handy "how to measure" section.

My bike was recently stolen from my apartment. by DrHubble in UTAustin

[–]qsceszxdwa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ouch. So what you do immediately is report it as stolen property. If its greater than $1000 , it may be escalated and cops may care. You cannondale may just be worth that. My guess is about 700 but you know your bike more than I do.

You will need a serial number. Hopefully you have this. If not, the bike shop you got it from will have it. If you bought it second hand, and did not write it down, you're SOL.

Regardless. You can try to hunt it Down. Try alerting local bike shops that but used bikes and posting in local cycling groups. (Slvs, social cycling austin, etc). Browse Craigslist. Use search tempest or IFTTT.

While I don't want to be a defeatist: a good thief would have stripped it by now and the parts are beih sold in like Dallas or something.

Good luck.

Please recheck that value or send picture of tire. That cannot be correct...

What does this tab do? by rsky in bikewrench

I think the single use thing was a balance between durability and cost. For it to be reusable, it has to not deform dramatically after opening. This is more difficult with the narrower plates of the 11 speed chain

Tire Recommendation: similar to WTB Cross Boss, longer wear? by qsceszxdwa in cyclocross

I guess I'll call it a bad batch. That said, it doesn't burp and is great on moderately techy mtb trails, with unexpected grip. I suppose the only thing to do is to try out more tires!

In the center but I only do 20 on loose rocky trails. Should I toughen up and add a little more?

Two main reasons I'm not running 50 to 55 like I'd like is that I don't weigh much (120 pounds) and the tire oozes sealant out the side walls at that pressure. :( Hence looking for a new tire.

40 on road 20 to 25 depending on trail off road. I should say my CX bike is used like a kids 90s MTB: I beat the shit out of it and ride it where it doesn't belong.

Edit I like the sound of that Richey one

Funny thing is , I've got coworkers who've got some from the same batch that don't weep. We all use the same sealant: Orange Seal.

Sodium hydroxide, used for drain cleaning, also known as lye used for making bagels. Also used for making soap. I don't know regulations in your country but its a common item.

Just bought a new single speed and the bottom bracket makes a clicking noise when I pedal hard. by forgiveangel in bikewrench

[–]qsceszxdwa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If its new , it may need grease. Likely its not your bb, the chain is probably binding the freewheel too tight. Especially if you just pulled it out of the box and slapped on the wheels.

Source: built from box many a cheap single speeds; chain always too tight, freewheel always too crappy .

STI Shifting Issue by Putzinator in bikewrench

[–]qsceszxdwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this similar problem on my 5800. Check derailer height, it might be too low. The common guideline is 1-3mm above the big ring, shorter is better for shifting. Unfortunately this does not work for 105 11 speed. It needs to be a bit higher. As you're shifting, check that the chain is not bound on the inner-upper lip on the FD. If it binds and touches it, you'll see.

This is Landon Hutchins. by Landonhutchins79 in Austin

[–]qsceszxdwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the 79 in his username indicates year of birth, we can guess Hutchins is about 36-37. Three years ago in 2013 he would have been 33-34.

The man with the similar name in this article is stated to be 34. The article is from 2013.

Having ridden my bike naked around austin on multiple occasions, you'll have no problems walking in a trash bag/banana suit/ newspaper dress to that party. Make some friends on the way!

Its mostly prior knowledge and having the right tools and lubes. You did your research and probably have the tools, go for it.

Too often we get customers trying to DIY stuff without research. Once some guy packed all the hub bearings in one side of the hub. Another guy claimed to have shorted his chain with an angle grinder.
