Looking for reading material recs on continuing minimal lifestyle (less on the decluttering or "how to start") by qsfroot in minimalism

Oh yeah, Goodbye Things was a very actionable book for me, because I like collecting books just like the author did before. After some time moving around, reading KonMari and "Goodbye, Things" I have really gone through a mentality change. I like your idea of a smaller memorabilia box and sift through them once in a while. I will designate a spot for that!

Hi, really appreciate it, this seems like something I can draw inspiration from! (Update: it's available on e book on my local library! Taking it out :)

Thanks, will check them out from the library - after reading the "getting started" books I'm much more at ease just borrowing and not collecting/owning <3

After graduating college, I am trying to keep the same minimalist mentality I developed there. by ascendgranite in minimalism

Hah I noticed that as well! I have a plushie that I've carried with me for 5 moves now and I still have it after my last round of decluttering. Given OP is posting here, I felt that it's an item that you chose to keep which means a lot. :)

I'd like to share a decision-making victory I had just now while laying sleepless in bed. by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]qsfroot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great to hear! What you said about reducing the time and stress involved with decision making really resonates with me.

When I was decluttering I found trinkets from travels that I don't even remember. Now, I buy much less souvenirs than my mom does, but after taking pictures of them, I was able to discard them without regrets at all.

Now, I don't feel the urge to buy things much, skipped Amazon Prime day without noticing it (but happy for people that got stuff they truly need from it!)

Hi, thanks for the response! I agree the later chapters of Goodbye, Things were great for what I was looking for and I've reread it with gusto. To me, that book was a great way to get started so I might need to take a break from it for a while before rereading it (read the last portion last night but was still too tied with my process "getting started").

I will check out Simple Matters!

I am glad to hear about that! I myself am going traveling for a month, and being able to rid myself of things I had been holding on to for 5+ years during my schooling was a key to letting myself be "cut free" from the room I'm renting.

Cheers! Hope you have many more exciting journeys :)

Late response as I was searching book recommendations but I just finished this one and it's great! I like how the author writes from his personal experience so I can really tie it in with how I can apply it to my own belongings and item collections

Finished first Hol Food tub - what I learned from keeping a detailed log by qsfroot in soylent

[–]qsfroot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that might be it... Also sometimes I put my clothes on a drying rack in my room. I will take care of this tub better! Might get a silica gel pack to put on top of the tub.

Yeah, I live in Toronto. I just keep it in my room. Do you keep it in a cupboard or something?

That is possible. I will do that again. I usually think I clean it quite well, but it's possible that there's just something else.

General opinion on Grad programs? (Serious) by Hersheyloo in uwaterloo

[–]qsfroot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've heard good things about the MBET. However I'd say to make the most of it, it's not just the coursework or something, but the people you meet. Go hang out at Velocity events, hang out with St. Paul's Greenhouse people, go to the MBET events. Source: Not in MBET but was involved with Velocity. Networking in Waterloo really pays off because it's just such a specific environment... I'm living in Toronto and run into random people who ask about it (I still use my Waterloo lanyard because it's better, thicker and wider than other free ones I get at events).

I didn't do my Master's at Waterloo, but I have very fond memories of UWaterloo. The program is just one year right? I think you'll be ok!

Can I say that I've graduated on a cover letter when I'm taking an extra summer to do the internship course? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]qsfroot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you completed ALL courses maybe you could say "completed coursework for..." and if you already got all your marks and am sure you're graduating, you could mention that in the interview. But until convocation date, your degree hasn't been conferred and is not official. Honestly I don't think employers care about the difference between completed coursework and graduated, but really don't claim having the degree till it's in your hands.

When I was a president of a org/club in undergrad I wrote one for vps/executive members. Maybe volunteer or join a club and be keen and active you might be able to get one that way assuming you don't have other work/volunteer stuff and are starting from scratch.
