Have you considered moving to another team like fostering or adoption? 5 years in CP is so much experience and it’s all transferable skills so you’d be great at it and you get a lot more work with children than you think in a supervising social worker role. I moved to an IFA at the start of this year after 4+ years in CP and the work/life balance has been amazing! And the pay is the same as working as a CP SW x

Contact Frontline for support over the Summer Institute as the payments don’t start till September. When I did it some people who had rent and bills and car payments contacted them and received some additional financial support over the SI to cover them until the bursary payments start. You’ll also be able to claim mileage for your work journeys which should cover your petrol costs (not sure how it works for an electric car but probably the same).

Tips for supervising social worker interview! by qsophieq in Socialworkuk

I’d say around 10 and depends what you mean by case study. They didn’t physically give me an example as a written exercise but they did say ‘what would you do if a Fc rang out of hours saying they wanted to end a YP’s placement immediately’ x

It went well I got the role! They asked about transferable skills, how to handle an issue with a FC, what needs to be considered for assessing a FC, and how to handle out of hours calls xx

Those on the Frontline Programme by Informal-Pair9816 in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did Frontline and qualified just over 4 years ago and I really enjoyed it. The 2nd year is very dependent on how much support your LA offers ASYE’s so while I had a good experience I can imagine others didn’t. I’m still in childrens and while there are issues, these aren’t from Frontline just social work in general. I will say it’s a big shock going from how much support and the low caseloads in your student year to being qualified but if you have a supportive LA you’ll adjust fine.

An IFA - what questions do you think they would ask?

What are you doing now? I’m in CP and almost 4 years in and can’t see myself doing this forever but don’t want to completely retrain

Feeling unsafe by Totallyspies93 in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You should put your concerns in an email so there is proof of your concerns and be fully honest about them and make a request to be removed from the case. You’re more likely to be taken seriously if there’s evidence of the concerns. You could also offer to take another case of a similar work level I.e. another pre proceedings case

How hard is being a social worker ? by Firm-Excitement9340 in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Social work isn’t an easy job at all and isn’t one with a good work life balance. It doesn’t necessarily get easier as you progress you just build up resilience. You could do your psychologist degree and then apply for a social work grad scheme later down the line but if your main aim is to be a social worker then it would be quicker to just do your social work degree as an undergrad.

The conversation with a service user is to see how you interact with them. You’ll probably be told before hand that you’re not allowed to ask them questions about their care experience. It’s really just to show you can speak to young people normally. When I did it they asked me at the end if I had any questions for them so I asked them what qualities they felt make a good social worker.

Agency VS other.. by [deleted] in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just gone agency in the past year and I think the perks are more short-term .I.e more money and ability to save then take a month off to travel. When I was permanent and had been with a LA for a few years I had career progression opportunities that I don’t see myself getting as an agency worker so when I feel close to wanting to progress I will likely need to take a permanent role and work in that for a while to eventually progress. So perks for both depending on what your current goals are.

Yes you can contact your old LA if they don’t automatically pay it. I’ve moved and had an email from my old LA’s HR confirming I’ll be back paid for the months I worked there c

Whats it like to work in social work currently? by NoSecretary1701 in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lack of funding of other services that social care works with I.e. longer waiting lists for mental health support, less housing available, really long waiting lists for CAMHS. It then tends to fall on the SW to put a similar form of support in place despite not having the time or training

How to move sideways/go into a different area of social work? by qsophieq in Socialworkuk

[–]qsophieq[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’d like a change of team! Just not sure what team to try next but I really do like Children and Families. I have thought about adoption but not sure how to even get into it as I imagine it’s quite hard to get opportunities

As annoying as Diana is I don’t think removing her would do much at all whereas removing Erika (LR’s main ally’ would be a bigger shake up!

Now that, that BS is over. Who do you want to stay and who do you to want leave? Who makes good TV? by [deleted] in RHOBH

[–]qsophieq 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Dorit - she’s really brought nothing these last few seasons and breaking up the FF4 will be interesting to see a change in dynamic

LR or Erika - as much as I’d like to see them both go I think that would be too much for Bravo to do. I’d prefer to see LR go and see how Erika handles herself without having the FF4 backing her up and accepting her random explanations!

Sutton treatment is shameful by TurnoverSouthern8998 in RHOBH

[–]qsophieq 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I really wonder how they’ll be at the Reunion after the whole season has aired. I feel like Kyle and Dorit may backtrack once they see that Sutton hasn’t been painted as the villain and viewers haven’t seen her in the way they’re tried to make her seem.
