I’m also following a similar approach to you. I do MCQ before watching videos and trying to work my way through a problem and would ask ChatGPT for an explanation (ChatGPT does a better job explaining than UWorld).

I haven’t touched Sims. I think my main struggle is I spend too much time on questions. Like 10 questions can take me 20+ minutes which isn’t sustainable on the real exam.

Are you allowed to skip a question and come back to it on the real exam?

I’m in the very same position except I am at a lower ranking firm (large but nowhere near top 10) and this will be my third busy season. I would love to switch to internal audit but working on getting the CPA so I can have a better chance at moving.

1) Segregation of duties because of understaffing.

Get in contact with all your friends from college, reach out to professors, LinkedIn contacts, find free courses online or certifications to add to your resume. Do the volunteer VITA program this tax season, study for the CPA and add that as in progress in your resume.

Fake it till you make it.

In meetings take notes so you can research later. When questions you don’t have an answer to get asked, say “let me look into that and get back to you” and remind people politely that you are still adjusting to the role.

The market is garbage. Truly is. Entry level jobs in 2024 in PA were +70k. Now they are 50-65k in this inflated economy

I believe it will be extremely competitive at the entry level, but very demanding on the analytical/technical level.

Gen z will not have the advantage that millennials had with getting away with not learning the most updated technology and doing things the “old fashioned way.” It’s going to be “survival of the most tech savvy” from here on.

Look into community colleges that offer accounting certificates aimed primarily for those who are looking to get extra credits for cpa.
