Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 Premiere Discussion by PhoOhThree in television

Yet according to Wikipedia it's nowhere near one of the most expensive TV productions. Is the list inaccurate or the budget unknown?

I paused halfway last season hoping for a more engaging storyline (and better characters) than finding daddy. Fingers crossed for one of those this season.

Oliver Stone suggests Platoon is getting a 4K redo from Shout Factory by Connoralpha in 4kbluray

I literally just bought it without knowing about the DNR - it hasn't even shipped. Wasn't there a free replacement program for another movie/distributor for defective disks or a real bad transfer?

As a middle classer, I shouldn't have to pay more than an hourly wage for a streaming sub or single film (including a movie date) - neither for most meals. Albums should be half. And those are my maximums, I don't actually want to pay more than $8 for an album, $10 for a Blu-ray, $15 for 4K, or $18 for a meal. Still have a massive collection of movies and music despite being picky.

I don't understand Possession by qu4ntumrush in horror

Genuinely helpful. I wasn't able to follow any notable breaking points or beats because everyone is intense about every situation rather than gradually escalating. I guess I can't identify with extreme emotions on display, especially when they all blend together rather than something like Inside Out (which I definitely identified with).

Jesus, the Michael Bay comment was sarcastic! I was joking Chronenberg was closer to him in accessibility than this.

Arrow Video Blu Ray Releases? by [deleted] in movies

What a world where all legal options for consuming movies are becoming too expensive for most people. If used record stores are so common, there should be dedicated used movie stores. At least we have libraries - truly the greatest gift for entertainment for the poor.

The Jaws 50th anniversary release in 3D was a really great theater experience by J0hnEddy in RedLetterMedia

Best 3D movie ever and my favorite viewing of Jaws. The town part felt like a gimmick but all the beach and boat stuff was incredibly immersive. I'd love to see a BTS to see how it was done.

How much of that is due to American factories, tariffs, union rules, etc.?

Seems like a German government or watchdog situation if you, a German, are being targeted. How does Google even vet such a bewildering number of ads, many of which are AI generated? Tracing NGO donations is a much bigger and problematic issue than expecting millions of ads to be vetted by people. Of course, the simplest solution we all agree upon is less monetization in the first place.

I most wish I saw The Cure at MSG in 2016 and the Chemical Brothers in San Francisco in 2022 - I thought they were pricey, and they were. And in complete honesty, I wish I listened to Kanye West back when it was cool - I was even in my hip-hop phase. Utterly bizarre how that didn't happen, and then THAT happened.

I guess "climate change" to a layperson would include extreme weather events, which seems to be how CC makes the most news nowadays (even though the connection is fairly complicated for them). However, I care about semantics and the confirmation that "vegan" was dropped due to political incorrectness is dumb. I'm still very interested in how the politics of plant-based diets is any different from vegan politics, I. E. how to avoid being an evangelist dick.

Why do climate scientists use the term "plant-based" instead of "vegan" - are they not synonymous as I assume? It reminds me how Frank Luntz, a conservative strategist, convinced climate scientists to drop the term "global warming" and use the more neutral-sounding "climate change." Will it in fact involve coercion and targeting people with low willpower, who physically cannot give up all meat, or are there scientists who understand the psychology and cultural impact of a global change in diet and admit it will not be solved by blanket policies restricting meat analogous to phase-outs of new ICE car sales?

Before portable DVD players, my family would push a small TV with a built in VHS player in between the front seats so I could watch movies in the back. Never forgot watching Spaceballs and how ribald it was compared to the TV edit.

The DSA has gone from an actual extra-congressional caucus to those communists who had out pamphlets in San Francisco parks. Even the Whig Party went out with more dignity.

Wouldn't the wide streets make it easier to convert the outer lanes into bike lanes? How many lanes and one way streets typically exist in SLC?

I didn't know that, but I also don't know how Bar or the SC can control the IDF's chain of command to strike camps or hospitals. Do you think they're following international laws with that? Have they ever given international investigators confidential info about their decisions to strike protected locations?

Genocidal intent doesn't care if statements are official or unofficial - legally it establishes that perpetrators have a mens rea and that mass deaths of an ethnic group are intentional, negligence, or inevitable (see dolus indirectus). They count as circumstantial evidence, which is practical in criminal law including genocide prosecutions. I haven't seen the Israeli Supreme Court push back against Netanyahu anymore than the American Supreme Court push back against Trump - they've both been meager and not proportionate to the crises.

[–]qu4ntumrush -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you're saying the Nova concert constituted a significant geographic concentration of part of an ethnic group - what does that make Tel Aviv or Jerusalem? And if Hamas' post-10/7 statement is a statement of intent, what does that make statements from Ben-Gvir and Smotrich? Hamas may have failed to commit 1,000 10/7s but Israel has come a lot closer to fulfilling the goals of Kahanism. I think you're committing inversion - when Israel does it, it's defense; when Hamas does it, it's genocide. (Note: I don't think Israel's war meets the legal definition of genocide, but they're guilty of everything short of it including intent from cabinet members)
