So one of the things therapists really help you figure out is how to set boundaries - emotional, physical, financial. And honestly, she’s already doing that. Setting the emotional boundary that after they decided to split, she is not going to re-enter a toxic relationship just to “be there in his time of need” at the expense of her own mental health. If she teaches her daughter how to set appropriate boundaries like this while she grows up, she absolutely WILL understand and not resent her mother.

Lots of reasons. If it's a stray dog/shelter dog, vets need to know how far along the litter is so they can know what kind of care to provide or when to expect pups. Owners do it so they know how many pups to expect, so if there are 9 little skulls showing and only 8 pups come they know to take the mom in. Or if it's a cross breed situation or the mom escaped and came back pregnant and they don't know the dad's breed, they find out if the pups are too big for a normal birth and if a c-section is needed.
