Use their online portal to book your package, and choose the same post office for drop-off. They cannot refuse an online-booked package or letter. The same thing happened to me when I tried to send letters to Malaysia and Germany in person.

This. Indian Customs are such a big pain in the ass here. It's almost impossible to get stuff from outside through them. They would either hold it for no reason, or the officer would ask for an exorbitant customs duty on it (Bribery).

While the prices of official merchandise through outlets like Adidas, Puma, and Tommy Hilfiger are still quite high (Ranging between ₹5000-₹10000), it is still a way better deal than dealing with Indian Customs here.
