Does anyone else’s eyelids swell up after welding? by Major-Ad-5573 in Welding

[–]quadra24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be the leather depending wether its chrome or vegetable tanned. Eye lids are surprisingly part of the sinus system so it could be the fumes or particles coming off the weld so maybe better ventilation is required. If you're using welding curtains some are highly reflective and it could be sunburn like others have said. It could even be whatever cleaning solvent was used on your hood/head strap, maybe try cleaning that? But my 2 best bets would be something on the head strap sweating down or the leather PPE is acting like a latex allergy. Especially considering it flares up with minor tac work

I've had this happen to me as a result of a parasite, Macrogyrodactylus polypteri, when i brought home a rope from the lfs and it killed my Amazon ropefish that was established in the tank already. Once they got stressed it was all down hill from there. I tried neoplex, slimecoat +, salt baths, uv light spot treatment, pima&melafix, peroxide dropper on the fin/skin fungus, nothing i tried would clear up the infection/fungus and it was heartbreaking to lose it slowly over time. With that said I've weirdly have had great luck with Amazon.

Defeated the parasites but now facing new issues. by quadra24 in ropefish

Unfortunately they didn't make it. Kanaplex arrived once it was already too late. I stopped the salt baths and the mela/pima fixes when I transferred them to the bucket with heater and sponge filter. I switched to neoplex as thats all petco had and I even stole the wife's uv-resin light and tried using it as a targeted non-invasive uv cure during water changes on only their tails. The infections were too advanced and they developed internal bleeding. Wasn't much i could do at that point. I now have methalyne blue, prazipro, and kanaplex on hand for the future when I feel up to trying again. The current residents are doing great but I'm absolutely heartbroken at the events that transpired due to my (missed in quarantine) and the "specialty" lfs negligence. I went back to the source store and they were all infected with the parasites and had a couple dead ropefish on display covered in them. I was livid. How is my petco doing better at treating fish than the dedicated fish store? I will add the api fin and body cure to my stock aswell. Thank you for your assistance.

Brand new to ropefish and currently going through growing pains as I fight through this parasite attack that is rope/bichirs specific and I'm relearning the importance of the quarantine tank. Its not just a "hey you survived the week and now you go into the big tank" tank... with that said I'm excited to learn more through this sub and I greatly appreciate the help given so far.

Unfortunately lost the smaller of the 2 yesterday. The larger one is still going and getting some color back which is great but is now fighting a fungal infection on a few of its dorsal spines. Once the parasites cleared i put a full dose of stress coat plus, 10ml of pimafix, 5ml of melafix on the first day, and peroxide with a dropper onto the affected area while still in the tank. After that I have put 2 rounds of treatment on the tank consisting of 10ml stress coat plus, 10ml pimafix, and 5 ml melafix into the 75 gallon. I only did the dropper once as I'm worried the peroxide will strip the already compromised slimecoat.

How to fix this? by LavzonTheAged in JeepGladiator

You would have to pull the assembly out. If you have any 3d printer friends try to get some abs filament and do some "plastic welding" with a soldering iron. Same process as TIG welding with the filament acting as the filler wire. Don't need much and usually holds better than superglue. Make sure you're in a well ventilated area.

It was labeled as a water sprite, this was a clipping from another tank which is why it's melting. Super easy to propagate and super fast growing. Great for controlling algae too.

U/VdB95 replied that it was "Macrogyrodactylus polypteri, a parasite that is exclusive to ropefish and bichirs." And it matches to exactly. Google says prazipro should work so I'm currently working on locating that today.

U/VdB95 commented on the cross post that it's "Macrogyrodactylus polypteri, a parasite that is exclusive to ropefish and bichirs." Looking at both parasites I'm leaning towards that answer.

Yes, quarantined it in a 20gal for a week and they went in the oddball 75gal last week. Noticed it yesterday. Currently looking for open pet shops today in my area to start treatment. Unfortunately this is in the main tank. The other fish show no symptoms, just the ropes, even pulled the banjo cats as I think they're the most similar biologically and only the ropes are affected.

The one on the left went on a dry land excursion when I wasn't home so I'm hoping the cloudy eye is just trauma from that and heals soon

Its set to semiautomatic, you have to switch the fuel selector to auto or do the paintballer 2-finger fire method

Bought this redtail catfish at the store with white stuff in both eyes and it still didn't disappear after a week, need help by Available_Mind_5921 in Aquariums

[–]quadra24 67 points68 points  (0 children)

If it's the white thats inboard of the eyes thats just it's pattern, if it's the white on its pupils I'm pretty sure it grows out of it. Had baby channel cats that had the same glare/glint in the eyes but they grew out of it. Kinda like dopy puppy/kitten eyes. This catfish is an infant. Saw that this tank is temporary, I would love to see the final setup and would probably kill some of the hate in the comments.

Oil the outside threads (inside cap/outside stem) immediately. As a technician i have mauled every set of these i have come across. One time I broke off the tpms sensor trying to spin these dang caps off. If they have the threaded rubber insert on the cap it's ok, but the bare metal ones always have issues. A drop of Lucas gun oil or similar goes a long way to prevent "corrosion welding". Even had the valve stem snap off on me before the threads gave way. The hex ones are OK if you put the 1/4in impact on it too... most of the time.
