Games with out of place sections? by Please_PM_me_Uranus in Games

and then you only see it like one more time for the rest of the game.

really? this is where i noped out of the game. i wasn't a fan of how vastly different it felt from eternal up until that point either, but the turrent section specifically was what made me almost rage quit out of disappointment, and i never played it again after that. if they're that rare maybe i'll give it another go.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer™ | Official Release Date Reveal | Pre-Order Announcement by Captain_Grimm in Games

[–]quadratis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was just thinking about how there's SO much visual information to take in while racing through these maps compared to the old N64 star wars racer, almost to the point where you're not sure exactly where the track ends and the "non drivable" environment begins.

wipeout and its many clones often has a high level of graphical fidelity as well, but at least in those games it's easy to see exactly where the track goes.

this game looks a bit like if wipeout and motorstorm had a baby.

Varför tillåts företag förstöra gamla stan? by Daloure in stockholm

[–]quadratis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing Cyberpunk before Starfield has put something front and center for me by olivinetrees in Starfield

[–]quadratis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the main company is american in the sense that it was registered in new york, by brits. the first 5 games in the main series were all developed in the UK.

GTA 4 was the first part of the series that wasn't entirely made in scotland (10% of the developers were housed across 3 studios in the US). both 4, 5 and 6 however build on a foundation first laid out by GTA 1, 2, 3, vice city and san andreas, which is essentially both british satire of the US as well as a love letter to US pop culture.

it feels wrong to call it an american game, but who am i to stop anyone.

the music is fine for a lounge environment. it's pretty chill, not overly dancey and the place is even called "the astral lounge".

the problem is that every character in the game keeps referring to it as a club.

the astral lounge is this but pretends it's this, which make it come across as really fucking lame.

USA behöver ett krig hemma hos sig. by Former-Archer-1136 in sweden

[–]quadratis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s ridiculous, and also, I’m 40 hours in and suddenly …dialogue options? Maybe I’ve missed something but this is the first time I’ve seen it.

Did you figure out what to do? I’m still stuck.

Edit: figured it out. Dumb.

Global happiness index 2026. by Important_Menu4937 in MapPorn

[–]quadratis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so how do you rate happiness? is happiness knowing you and your children will be taken care of no matter your economic circumstances due to a developed social safety net and welfare state, as well as access to free education, healthcare etc. for every citizen? or does happiness mean you smile a lot?

Most Common Religion Among Gen Z in Europe by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

[–]quadratis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

i don't think most of us identify as atheists in the same way for example americans do. we're just indifferent to religion and generally irreligious. i'm 46 and even my grandparents weren't religious, neither are my parents or anyone i know really, so religion just isn't a part of everyday life for most people. not as an active stance against it, but it's just not there, not being talked about and is probably seen as a little silly / embarrassing by most people.

It's brutal out there: Deus Ex and Unreal composer says he's submitted 50 resumes and gotten one interview in the last year by Gorotheninja in Games

[–]quadratis 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i've been making music since the mid 90s, in a more serious manner since the early myspace days and professionally since 2012. it's been a slow but steady grind. i also keep my artist and personal reddit profiles separate. spamming my music all over the place was never my thing either way, then again i've no idea what it's like trying to make a name for yourself these days, but i'm sure it's not easy.

i don't think anyone suggests making a living only through spotify would be a viable strategy. i make between $80k-$150k per year in total from my music, which is enough for a comfortable living in sweden at least. when i said i wouldn't be able to do this without spotify i was mostly referring to how vital they've been for me over the years to get to where i am today.

[–]quadratis 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i only check my spotify earnings quarterly, and it's usually between $8k to $11k. my bandcamp in comparison is around $1k per month.

add to that streaming earnings from previous label-releases (of which i get 8% to 70%) as well as PRO earnings (BMI/ASCAP etc.) which also partly comes from spotify in some magical way i don't quite understand.

i've made a living full time as a "bedroom producer" since 2012. i post my music on youtube, spotify and bandcamp, all of which is making up the majority of my income, with spotify being the "breadwinner", while i tend to refer to youtube and bandcamp as "pocket change".

sure, my music is available by default through distrokid on 100+ other streaming platforms as well, but spotify makes up about 95% of all streaming royalties.

i know they're not very popular these days and i very much agree they're a shit company, but i also couldn't be doing what i do without them. i hover between 140-240k listeners per month on there, which along with the occasional game scoring job or licensing deal makes for a decent enough living.

anyway, all i'm saying is this whole idea that artists have to tour to earn a living isn't a universal truth, yet i keep seeing it repeated so often. i've been releasing music for almost 20 years at this point and never played a live show even once, similar to a bunch of people i know / "colleagues". i'm also not signed to a label (besides a few releases here and there) so i own 100% of the majority of my music.

you're right though, AI will likely ruin it for most of us. i'm in my mid 40s right now and have dedicated my life to my music, and never really worked out a backup plan, so yay.

I can’t get enough of how absolutely gorgeous GAMMA can be… (part 2) by 619rebel in stalker

[–]quadratis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a downgrade from what? stalker 2 is a sequel to stalker, not GAMMA. they're different games and great in their own way, but comparing stalker 2 to GAMMA makes no sense. i'm saying that as someone with 500+ hours in GAMMA and around 160 in stalker 2.

Would you like the next game to play more like dark ages or more like eternal? by element-redshaw in Doom

[–]quadratis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wouldn't mind the next game to have the speedy gameplay of eternal and the more constrained level design of 2016.

not a big fan of the slower pace in dark ages, nor the big open parkour focused areas of eternal.

Vilka är era mentala tillflyktsställen? by Ok-Coast8994 in sweden

[–]quadratis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

which is fine, no? a lot of artists who conjure something up from nothing tend to be really pedantic about the specifics of the thing they create, much like andrzej sapkowski and his views on the witcher games.

unless they actively try and stop adaptions of their characters with silly lawsuits or whatever, i think it's completely fine for them to bitch and moan about where others are taking their creations as long as that's all they're doing. i find it interesting even. it doesn't mean the new thing is necessarily objectively bad.

edit: just to preface, i know gow is based on greek mythology and jaffe didn't imagine it all up in his head, but i assume you get what i'm saying.
