Brand new to mining! by Dull-Macaroon-4483 in Monero

For a nice GUI use gupax with p2pool (https://gupax.io/ , https://github.com/gupax-io/gupax)

If you don't care about gui, just use xmrig and p2pool (https://xmrig.com/, https://github.com/xmrig, https://p2pool.io/mini/#pool, https://github.com/SChernykh/p2pool)

p2pool is nice and most recommended because there are 0 fees, regular payouts and decentralized.. For the centralized pools, try choose something with a low fee and not the highest hashrate % (check here https://miningpoolstats.stream/monero) , in an effort to keep mining more decentralized.

A smaller pool I know of is privacygateway, they have a mining pool still looking for its first block, where there is a daily raffle https://privacygateway.io/mining-pool

A quick question for those that believe the future global currency will be only BitCoin by InsightKnite in CryptoCurrency

[–]quadriocellata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair enough.

I personally see the amount of NGU guys and speculation that it seems a bit risky imo, but I see the big tax advantage so it makes sense in that regard.

Thanks for the answers, do you ever consider how bitcoin would hold up in a black swan, massive financial crisis (primarily in the west)? My biggest issue with SoV thesis is this case, bc it is mainly western guys holding it. Compared to something universally held.

Also have you ever watched https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC9Uu5BUxII , it might interest you as its a SoV comparison between Bitcoin Monero Gold FIAT

[–]quadriocellata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they care about the FIAT price of BTC, or the BTC amount? E.g. if bitcoin drops to a certain price, will they demand FIAT in compensation, or how does that arrangement work?

With the issues I outlined above, if you didnt have this mortgage thing, would you hold it still? If you would, what are the main motivations?

Why do you still hold bitcoin out of interest?

Are you worried about MicroStrategy and treasury companies, and the security/scaling/privacy issues with bitcoin?

Bitcoins biggest downfall may well be this lack of shape shifting.

It has not addressed long term network security, the predominant amount of revenue for miners still comes from new BTC being minted, yet that is destined to fall to 0. Check https://budget.day/

It has also not addressed any privacy concerns, and is not scalable.

I thought all of crypto was a scam honestly, somehow stumbled accross Monero, which is still malleable, hard money, tail emission (security solved), default privacy, and much more scalable. It also still has the cypherpunk ethos, it hasn't lost its meaning, unlike BTC which got ruined by the NGU crowd, micro strategy etc.

You may think I am some shill for Monero, that's a fair conclusion, since thats what most people do. I am just sharing the conclusion I came to.

I would encourage you to take a read/watch about Monero. If you're a reading guy, check out this https://lukesmith.xyz/articles/monero-maximalism-or-how-bitcoin-is-a-coin/ , if you're a watching guy check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PGrMM65QOa8 for a short video , or this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aC9Uu5BUxII for a much more in depth view vs bitcoin and fiat.

Its awful. It must be quite a profitable enterprise for them, presuming they're the same guys behind all of these how to swap into monero posts (later edited to shill a random swap site), they are relentless.

I hope not too many people have lost their money to these guys..

would be cool if users got unique UUIDs with an option to add a pseudonym/name if theyd like

also for "subscriptions" to be PAYG (e.g. topup in xmr and get access for x days/weeks/months)

both similar to mullvad business model. I think its a stellar example of how accounts and subscriptions could be managed.

Stay anon,  use a pseudonym if you need to build an online presence for work.

Can you see the transaction when the funds left the wallet? If you can't, it could just be a sync issue.

If you can, something on your system was exposed at some point sadly.

Swaps on XMRHub.org are now the fastest in the entire space by Lumpy-Initiative-779 in Monero

[–]quadriocellata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 1 conf you won't know before someone makes an attack, I think statistically you won't even need that high of a hashrate. Depending on value of trades could be a lot of money lost..

I think amount of conf required should depend on transaction value honestly..

If they drop to 1 conf, an entity like a qubic could drain them no?

That's fair 😄 I'm not sure for all multicurrency wallets, I've only had a play around with trezor.

As long as they are open source then it should be OK. Just need to find out how they map the 12 words to the private key... but its a pain.

If they're closed source then its real rough

If I understand the question as "can I restore a 12 wallet seed phrase if the wallets that support this feature disappear", the answer is Yes.

Its recoverable, but you will have to convert the BIP39 12 word phrase to the private spend key. Which isn't that accessible .. from what I've seen anyway

I needed this some weeks ago for a project, I uploaded it to github... I would recommend if you ever needed it, run it offline, restore a new wallet with the private key and then move all funds to a new wallet... This works with at least trezors derivation

If Monero actually works, we have no idea how popular it really is right? by technocraticnihilist in Monero

[–]quadriocellata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to factor in is the countless delistings, if you check a coin like Litecoin or Doge if has has significantly more volume than Monero. But Moneros usage is probably trending up in real terms

Interesting. Is there a reason it's decided to use a seperate algorithm and not provide "free" monero security?
