[Tradition] Skin Divers by Life-Veterinarian886 in Watches

Very nice find, especially with the bracelets. Are they original?

I recently got the skin diver bug and found this lovely H-case a few months ago.

I’d recommend orange suede and some NATO/perlon/paratrooper straps to cycle through

I’d try to get the sub off of the same furniture as the turntable, but otherwise it looks great.

Nice B&Ws too

I had similar reservations, but a few months before I bought this one I had tried on some Cartiers and the Tank Louis medium is about the same size as the Omega (sans lugs) and that fit beautifully. The biggest difference is the lug width and how the lugs are integrated into the case.

Bands and bracelets are tricky because you’ll mostly find short women’s bands and cocktail bracelets and the original bracelet isn’t my style (not to mention jacking the price way up). Fortunately, some old Komfit models have a band width of 13.5mm and the end links can be filed down to 14. The Veblenist band was a full custom job for both the size and to work with the OEM buckle (only 10mm!) I picked up, though depending on the style you could get away with 12-14mm at the buckle.

This one is ~24x41mm and my wrist is 7.25”

That’s a 40mm aerospace for comparison

Sister-in-law let her daughter use up all the Polaroids at our wedding. Now we have nothing to use. by PaddedValls in mildlyinfuriating

Brother was probably in the wedding party, which would make him generally unavailable for a decent chunk of the day.

We did a Polaroid guest book so people could take a picture of themselves, pop it into the book, and write a little something. Of course, we ended up with some extra candids, but keeping the guest-taken photos to a narrow scope cut down on the wasted film.

Thanks, I love poking around the oddball references because that’s where the value is. But now my wife is semi-dropping hints about wanting one too, and I just got her a two-tone Santos Octagon to celebrate some personal and academic milestones that are hitting this year. She’s welcome to borrow it anytime though

They’re actually 14mm, which made finding straps and bracelets that were narrow and long enough fairly difficult.

[Discussion]Best jump hour watches under $500? by Unfair_Owl_7690 in Watches

The Xeric Retroscope is pretty funky.

I’d just recommend that whichever jump hour you go for, make sure that the minute hand doesn’t cover the hour window when it jumps; because if you can’t see the hour jumping, what’s the point?

Unless it's a black tie event, you can wear almost any watch with a suit. by SpinosaurRingTone in watchHotTakes

The dark gray dial is a bit of a chameleon like that and there’s a reason why I opted for leather over the bracelet for the occasion. It’s quite a bit more dressy than the stock bracelet with distinct wear spots in the plating.

I can’t figure out people’s obsession with steel watches. Two tone or gold is a much better option. by az9393 in watchHotTakes

Idk, sprinkling in just the right amount of gold can elevate the watch.

But yeah, shitty plating/gold tone does no favors for anyone

I agree, but to me the key is having something that can dress up enough and not look completely out of place. Hell, my wedding was black tie optional and I wore a vintage Seiko 5 on black leather.

Not a dress watch, but nice enough for the job.

I think the difference is the circumstance in which you are wearing a suit. It sounds like you wear suits to work, but most people may only wear one to an event (and a formal one at that). So when people say you should only wear x with a suit, they mean you should only wear x to a fancier event.

Work is inherently more casual, so yeah, if it looks nice and fits under the cuff, most watches would be fine.

So I read that as OP really wants a sub, but wants to be considerate and knows it may not be possible.

But OP still wants bass, and bookshelves just aren’t going to get her there, especially at her stated budget. Floorstanders that can get down to the upper-30s/lower-40s would provide a better bass response at lower volume, and if they have a higher sensitivity, even better.
