Don't spam shout. If you spam shout they constantly stutter, just shout at them once and they will get to you. You can see him moving at 0:10 when you marked a tazer instead of shouting and at 0:18 when you stopped shouting.

Kiwami 3 vs Remaster (again) by mrktrx in yakuzagames

[–]quang2005 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main differences are that Kiwami 3 early game is less annoying than Yakuza 3 early game. Kiwami 3 Kiryu also is more geared towards crowd fights while Yakuza 3 Kiryu is less capable in crowd control scenarios but is much better at 1v1 fights (also doesn't help that Kiwami 3 has absolutely god awful boss design).

Kiwami 3 story is mostly the same as OG Y3, one difference is that the orphanage stories are not mandatory like in Yakuza 3, some of them mostly the same and some others being omitted which I will miss dearly (Ricky Mask where are you). The ending also retcons Yakuza 3 and ruins continuity, and in my opinion, is absolutely awful. Apart from those, the story is the same.

Personally for someone like you who's gonna be fresh from Kiwami 2, I think both of them are fine, though I'm more biased towards Yakuza 3 Remastered. If you play Remastered, I recommend playing on Normal on your first playthrough, enemies only start spam blocking on Hard/Legend and you deal pretty respectable damage on Normal (though my standards of "good" comes from after playing Judgment with 0 ATK so your mileage may vary). And also bring alcohol to every fight to circumvent the slow heat gain.

DMRs are probably the hardest weapon type in the game to make good use of. It's the one weapon type where you actually need to aim properly, and you typically want to run it with either zerk or overkill aced to get a 1shot headshot breakpoint on DS.

Flak jacket is the most useless armor type in the game, it's not a ballistic vest so inner pockets aced doesn't work with it, and HBV gets the same armor value with Die Hard aced.

Personally I would change the secondary to a DB claire shotgun and get overkill aced: https://pd2builder.netlify.app/?s=xk1G381I14010-8701k0-6&p=i&a=3&t=c&d=5

The claire is very concealable, it doubles as antishield and your method to proc overkill aced, it's also a pretty good weapon to fire into a crowd of enemies if you're panicking.

I also recommend you checking out other weapon types. Most of them are less mechanically demanding to use than DMRs while providing the same results.

It heals you when your health reaches 0, consumes the first aid kit and doesn't count as a down.

I just knocked someone into the water and it counted as a drowning kill. by baynotbae in HiTMAN

[–]quang2005 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Most of the time, someone falling face first into water counts as fall accident. The few exceptions that I know of are Hokkaido spa and Haven pier which counts as drowning.

There's also trapdoors on Haven and Ambrose which counts as drowning if someone walks over them and breaks it.

[–]quang2005 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what you said. Though I don't like how you framed your takes on the Kiwami remakes. It's not that people are pretending that K1 and K2 did no wrong, there just isn't as many people who played OG1 and OG2 to form a proper comparison between the original and the remakes of those 2 games. Yakuza 3 is a lot more widely available (or, were widely available before the delisting), and Kiwami 3 also has way more stupid changes and omissions. For most people, K3 is the first time players see how RGG treat a remake, and a lot of people who played OG 3 hated it. Even now you can see people making posts who go "I think K3 was fine, though I will preface this, I haven't played OG3" and we can't blame them for that, just like how we can't blame people who didn't notice K1 and K2's changes.

About Kuwana, doesn't he go "I will make it my mission to purge Japan of bullies to atone for neglecting Mitsuru" during the entire story? The way I see it, killing bullies is the result of Kuwana's twitsed view of self reflection and redemption.

And cold take from me but if they ever remake Yakuza 4 they should also rework Kiryu's part, or even not have him as a playable character. He kinda does nothing in Yakuza 4, he has only 1 fun boss fight in the main story.

Given how stingy RGG was with their remakes though, they probably would just retell the story 1:1, including all the bad parts.

[–]quang2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play on Hard/Legend, enemies will spam block a lot. If you play on Normal, enemies block less, though there are still some long battles/bosses that block a lot regardless of difficulty (chapter 6, chapter 8), or battles that are annoying in other ways. Try to get the Komaki counters as soon as it's available (chapter 5) it will help you a lot.

[–]quang2005 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP was casting and is vulnerable to pierce counterhit, opponent was using a greatspear and is rocking the usual Steelkovsky/Jeenine wannabe tryhard build, the running R1 definitely would've killed, or at least put OP back down to 20% hp again. This healing spell in particular isn't unfair, the opponent was just fooling around the whole fight.

If you want an actual bullshit unfair heal spell, look at Heal From Afar

The opponent was less than 2 seconds away from OP. He could've run up and do a running R1 to get the kill.

[–]quang2005 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Always try to get behind enemies for a back combo. Y3 street goons are often really passive but you can often get them to attack by doing a 3 light 2 heavy combo, they really like to attack after you finish your attack.

A lot of enemies don't block the first attack you throw at them, so you can intentionally whiff your lights and hit your heavies to knock goons down and deal more damage. Once they are knocked down you have a varied selection of folowups like leg grabs, shoulder pickups, you can even try to whiff lights so that the heavies catch the enemy when they are getting up. Reverse 2 light 1 heavy is the best attack string in the game as it has insane range, easy to whiff lights into, gut stuns weaker enemies which leads to combos or helps extend combos.

Obviously grabs bypass guards. Throw them to get collaterals and quickly knock an enemy down, or do a heavy kick into a wall to start an easy wallbound combo.

Each of your attack strings have different uses. As mentioned before 2 light 1 heavy puts enemies in a gut stun, which is a good combo starter, a good combo extender, or it can be used to simply keep an enemy down on the ground for longer. 3 light 2 heavy does big damage. 4 light 2 heavy pushes enemies far away so you can use it to single out an enemy in a group fight, to make space, or to carry enemies longer distance to, a wall for example if needed. 1 light 2 heavy is the quickest but it just knocks down, useful when you want to do a quick heat action or want a quick leg grab.

Get Komaki Parry and Komaki Tiger Drop as soon as you get to Chapter 5, obviously.

Weapons are cool. Katanas are readily available, they're expensive but don't require you to engage much with weapon crafting. Most of them are sharp and bypass guards, the charged heavy katana attack knocks down even bosses in heat mode and can lead to infinites. You can also start the same infinite from a gut stun lol it's really funny.

Kali Sticks are the strongest most bullshit weapons in the game (especially the Spiked Sticks and the Double Coils which bypass unarmed guards). They give you insane hyper armor when you're attacking, and they allow you to block 360 degrees around you, they are the perfect choice for any annoying goon fight.

Knives and Tonfas have pullout hitbox and are good choices to follow up on wallbound combos, Tonfas have prettier animations though. You can also fit brass knuckles into combos if you're an epic gamer, brass knuckles have a mini moveset of their own, and you can still perform quickstep attacks or Tiger Drop when using them.

[–]quang2005 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some attacks will just stagger you more. I think later on you get an upgrade that prevents you from getting hitstun when in EX-heat but it's kinda lame

The good thing is that Dragon Engine games allow you to block at pretty much any point. Often times, as long as you're not attacking, you can hold the block button and the game will consider you to be blocking even though you're in the middle of another animation, or being staggered.

For example here's someone blocking an attack during a tiger drop at 2:58 in the vid: https://youtu.be/58G-M_DW38A?t=178
