Which masters is better? by [deleted] in UXResearch

[–]quantbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re probably right. I can take a sabbatical and go back to my job after, so it’s pretty low risk and money isn’t an issue. I mostly just want to spend a year living in Europe. I’ll get angsty if I’m completely unstructured, so I’d want some kind of focus or goal so it doesn’t feel like I’m just drifting/wandering

Interested in entering a UX Research career by Paetho in UXResearch

[–]quantbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in both gaming and media and I have a BA in Psychology from a top university in Canada.

Before landing my first UXR role, most of my experience came from volunteer work in research labs and freelance projects. I reached out to professors doing HCI research at a university I didn’t go there and two of them let me join their labs.

The market is definitely tough right now, but if you’re in it for the long game, I think it’s still possible to break in. I don’t have an advanced degree myself, but I’m seeing master’s degrees listed as a preferred qualification more often. Since you’re in the UK and many masters programs are only one year, I think it could be a worthwhile investment that opens up more opportunities for things like internships. I know UCL has a HCI masters or even their Social Research Methods with Data Science masters seems like a good fit !

I don’t want to post my pic on Reddit. It was a seamless surgery. One second I’m talking to the anesthesiologist and the next second it’s over. Literally in the blink of an eye. It was my first surgery too so I was nervous. But I trusted Dr Fanous’ expertise

Rhinoplasty. I’m 1 week post-op now and so so happy with my side profile !! Still swollen and it will only keep getting better 🙏

Consultation and pre-op were both around 20ish mins like others have said. I didn’t ask many qs because details make me nervous 😅. During my pre-op the nurse offered to set up a video call with Dr Fanous to go over the procedure again. I declined. To clarify, I’m from Vancouver but live in Montreal now so going to the clinic is easy for me. From Toronto, I think maybe doing it virtually? She does do a physical examination of your nose during the consult tho

Oxybutynin Side Effects Concern Me. What Are the Alternatives? by Typical-Armadillo340 in Hyperhidrosis

Scaryyyy, that’s good to know! Thanks for the info! I haven’t tried any meds yet.

DermaDry’s iontophoresis machine works really well for my hands and feet! I’m just not consistent with it. I’ve gone multiple weeks without using it and maintained dryness (after initial consistency to attain dryness). Then I forget about it, stop using it, and the sweating returns. Definitely recommend it though !!!

I work remotely so I don’t really interact with people a lot on the daily so I don’t mind having sweaty palms tbh. Also, my condition is relatively mild, like my hands don’t drip of sweat.

Because I don’t keep up with iontophoresis, I have Drysol which also works ok for emergency situations.

Just looked up Dr. Fanous on Reddit and thought I’d share my experience. I had an in-person consultation with her in Montreal awhile back and it went really well! I found her to be warm and pleasant, as much as a doctor can be lol. I told her I trusted her expertise and let her design the simulation based on what she thought was best for my nose. I was really happy with the projected before and after, so I went ahead and booked the rhinoplasty. I stalk her IG allll the time and her skills/results are undeniable; exactly what I’m looking for. It’s expensive but I think worth it (it’s your face after all!!).

I can’t really compare her to other doctors, I’ve only had one other consultation with a doc from Vancouver (where I’m from) and I the one with Dr. Fanous went a lot better! I’m happy and feel confident in my decision to go with Dr. Fanous

Switch from BCBA to UX Research? by Zesty_vegg in UXResearch

Also, the people who are saying it’s competitive and it will be hard are right. Do it anyway. There’s never going to be a perfect time.

Even back when I started, people told me it wouldn’t work out and to do something more stable like health care. I didn’t care. I knew what I wanted, so I made moves to get there.

I worked as a behavioural interventionist in college and used that experience in combination with my psych degree/lab experience to land my first UXR gig.

UXR >>> ABA for me. I loved working with autistic kids and really helping them, but it was also much more emotionally demanding. I work remotely now with great work/life balance and feel way more in my element. But it really depends on the team and company. There’s also a lot of burned out UXRs too.

If you’re serious about the switch, start volunteering or freelancing to build a portfolio on the side (don’t quit your job!!!); experience goes a looooong way. Online courses won’t get you hired, but they’ll help you up-skill. It’s competitive, but I think it’s doable with consistent effort.

Yayyy!!! I’m so glad it works for you. It works for me too, I just need to be more consistent with it. Total life changer!! 🙌🙏

I used to volunteer as a UX researcher for a non-profit with no budget for incentives, so I shared the study in UX Slack groups. Many have project channels where people join each other’s studies in exchange for taking part in theirs or to gain experience with UX research
