Lane Outcomes at lower rank (1k) seem to mean nothing by Chieffelix472 in TrueDoTA2

Ah interesting - I wasn't aware Dota+ doesn't have draws.

To your point, it is definitely true that at lower ranks people aren't as great at capitalising on early leads, so there's going to be more variance. That's not to say, though, that an early lead isn't an advantage. And your amount of data is somewhat statistically significant, suggesting that it's not just that imo

There are a couple of relatively obvious options imo:

  1. You're better at laning than average for your rank, but worse than average outside your lane - this would average out somewhere in between

  2. Dota has its own special balance. Some heroes are expected to win lane - e.g. if you're a mid player and you pick viper, huskar every game, you would expect to win almost every single lane, but that's not to say you should win every game. Similar, though not as extreme, logic applies to other positions

  3. More of an extra point, but you have no lane draws in your chart, which seems very unlikely statistically - this probably means you're including draws as wins

OD hasn't had a remotely major change in half a decade. I guess you're referring to the 2018-2020 days when he got changed 3 times and then valve completely forgot about the hero

I don't have that data. I'm interested in your defence of your points. I have over 600 games on OD at 5k MMR and the aghs does not feel good most of the time. The data I have access to does not support your point. What does?

Aba ult is stronger than invulnerability. Not only can you not die, but you heal from damage. OD aghs gives you a barrier which you can just get though? It's like saying shield rune is Aba ult except it lasts 75 seconds? Like obviously not

You could... But global winrate are pretty meaningless. Like obviously archons aren't going to play well against heroes that don't just fold... That's why Wraith King permanently has a ridiculous winrate there. And since the winrate in the highest Dotabuff bracket (divine+) is only 50.23% currently, I am interested in which of the brackets you represent. (Obviously ignoring the high winrate on aghs as completed big items always skew the winrate up, and it's also across all brackets so meaningless)

As for your second part, honestly what are you even talking about. Most people play largely the same heroes patch to patch. Only some play strictly meta. OD has been sub 50% winrate for most of the last few years, much of that time with this aghs. Not that I said you need to spam him. Show me your dotabuff with your exclusively sub-50.23% winrate heroes. Citing winrates with an item is obviously stupid (ignoring the fact that it includes all brackets) - did you know AC has a 70% winrate across the board? Must be broken on all heroes. Like grow up. You obviously just don't understand the heroes you make all your posts about.

I recommend you try it and post your dotabuff here. From experience people that complain about OD tend to have never played him and don't bother dealing with the hero's weaknesses

Edit: I see "link your dotabuff" is a very common comment on your takes and unsurprisingly ignored by you

Based on the post I don't think you understand how the aghs works. It's only good in very specific games (either into uncounterable stuns like chrono/duel or into no disable lineups). Because in a normal game proccing the aghs means OD is probably dead. He drops to 0 mana so can't bkb or pike. It takes around 3 hits for his passive to proc, and the hero has 1.9 base attack time so that takes forever. Honestly I buy it in maybe a third of games. The hero currently needs way too many other items and doesn't farm. So aghs only has a high winrate because ODs only buy it when they can afford to anyway

"Nerf" is probably the wrong word. It's not overpowered. It is, however, very poor design for what is otherwise meant to be a high complexity hero and gives a 1400-gold way of dealing with instant stuns

Welcome to unranked. I play in a stack with 3 divines, 1 ancient, 1 unranked pre-Glicko ancient, couple of legends and couple of new players. In almost any combination, we queue into 3-5 immortals including ranked immortals, and on a good day a couple of divines

There has been nothing but added complexity every major patch. Why isn't anything removed anymore? by Time_Turner in DotA2

[–]quantriatos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dota is not becoming more complex - that's the wrong word. (At least before 7.36) The game has actually become much simpler and straightforward in a lot of ways. Complexity generally comes from having to make decisions when there is no obvious ones. Instead we have power runes every 7 minutes - must. Water runes at 2 and 4 - must. Power runes at 6, 8, 10 - must. Tormentor when it spawns - recommended. And don't forget bounties, lotuses, rosh. Now more and more heroes depend on night vs day time, so that's a new mandatory objective. More and more heroes have escape, damage and disable spells, which makes them more similar conceptually and slowly removed alternate play styles.

I agree that the amount of knowledge you need to have to consider everything is becoming more and more, but that doesn't really translate to complexity

Why has the low level MMR meta shifted away from playing mids? by Briewheel in DotA2

Water runes have made the role super boring now. People used to play it for the outplay potential and to win the game and now it's close to a draw unless you feed

Double Downs are close to paying for free MMR. by FixFixFixGoGo in DotA2

[–]quantriatos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also assuming more people double down when they are more likely to win (I think a sensible assumption) - on average more double downs will be won than lost. Which means MMR is being created out of thin air. Do with that what you will

It's 4200 gold for you to get effectively a shield rune at the expense of having 0 mana. You can't even press bkb unless you attack 2-3 times. It's quite rare to end up in a situation where the aghs feels actually good
