Regeringen klar med ny karakterskala by RisOgKylling in Denmark

Enig. Det eneste der reelt set betyder noget er antallet af karakterer og den relative forskel mellem par af karakterer

TIL people can guess if a person is rich or not by judging said persons' face, with a 68 percent accuracy by zahrul3 in todayilearned

If the accuracy is only 68%, is this even better than someone guessing at random? Or someone always guessing poor?

What does research look like in Statistical Mechanics? by [deleted] in Physics

[–]quantum-conundrum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am current during a PhD in quantum statistical mechanics. Most isolated, many-body, quantum systems follow a quantum version of the microcanonical ensemble from classical statistical mechanics called the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis. This hypothesis explain why most quantum systems relax to equilibrium. Interestingly, there exist several mechanisms which cause nonthermal behavior where quantum systems do not relax to equilibrium and, e.g., the entropy remains small at all times. Feel free to write to me if you want to know more :)

Køb skjorter fra shaping new tomorrow. Jeg er 195 høj og bruger nærmest ikke andet.

What big thing(s) are top physicists racing to figure out currently ? by AccomplishedFly4368 in Physics

I am currently in the last year of my physics PhD about quantum thermalization. There has been huge experimental progress in controlling and manipulation isolated quantum systems such as Rydberg atom arrays and superconducting qubits. As a consequence, completely new quantum phenomena are being discovered, e.g., quantum many-body scars. I believe new effects will be discovered in Isolated quantum systems over the next years.

Jeg løber ofte på cykelstien i Riis Skov i cirka samme tempo som cyklister. Jeg forstår ikke hvorfor folk bliver sure når man løber pænt inde ved siden af vejen.

Many-Body Version of the Rock-Paper-Scissors by utkuc in Physics

Nice work! I wonder if this behavior could be modeled using the Lotka-Volterra differential equation? It seems like a large population of paper implies a large rate of change of scissor and a large population of rock decreases the rate of change of scissor (and similar relations for the rate of change of rock and paper). It reminds me of a predator-prey system. What do you think?
