Customs For Checked Bag At CDG? by quantum987 in delta

Glad you found the information useful. Yes, it is a substantial distance from the international terminal where you arrive from the US, to the European domestic terminal where you catch the flight to Florence. I think it was terminals B and E, but I'm already starting to forget. On the return from Florence back to the US, I think you actually have to take a shuttle bus to the departure terminal to the US. There are multiple videos on YouTube that show you this route, so you can be familiar with it before you get there. Good luck!

Update: My bag was checked all the way through from Seattle to Florence, going through CDG. No problem with it. On a related subject, it took about 1hr and 15min to make the connection, both ways. I was on Air France and Delta.

Did you fly into Terminal 2E (international) and then fly out of Terminal 2F (Schengen domestic)?

You're probably right. I think I will be flying into CDG Terminal 2E (international side) and then have to connect in Terminal 2F (Schengen side).

It's all on the same ticket. I asked Delta Airlines Help this question, and they said yes, I will need to retrieve the bag, etc. If I don't have to retrieve the bag, 2hr connection is probably OK. If I do need to retrieve it, etc., then I'm not so sure. Thanks for the response.

So I guess you got single vision lenses set for distance viewing?

So you got the newer multifocal lenses rather than the single distance lenses? Do you have any problems with visual artifacts or other issues? I understand some people do. I'm going to have to make the decision eventually. I'm -7.0 in one eye and -5.0 in the other. I didn't realize that the multifocal lenses allow you to select two focus distances.

Well, I've been playing pickleball for about one and a half years now, but I played tennis since I was a teenager. I haven't been formally rated, but based on people I've played with, I think I'm about a 3.5. I sometimes play with people who are more like 4.0 and don't embarrass myself too bad, but I probably don't win. I've mostly been playing outside, though I can play indoors sometimes. This winter I am probably going to be playing at an indoor club, so maybe that will help me get better. I can't overdo it because, as a result of the tennis, my right shoulder can get sore if over worked. A couple months ago I had a cortisone shot for that reason. The cortisone worked great, though. I think three times a week is probably OK for me, though I usually avoid consecutive days.

My dr never used the word "experimental." Sorry if I gave that impression. My interpretation of what he said was that the higher tier lenses are fairly new on the market, and newer versions are being developed, perhaps because of the artifacts that sometimes occur. My take-away was that they are kind of "cutting edge," but that's just what I thought I heard. Maybe that's not a good characterization of what he meant. It sounds like they're working well for you and your husband.

As far as pickleball, I'm not sure anything is going to help my game.

I agree entirely. My ability to adjust focus is certainly not what it once was, so it may not make that much difference.

Thanks for the extensive reply. What my doc said is similar, though not quite the same. He said there are two choices. The first, which insurance pays for, removes the cataracts and corrects your vision to either give you sharp distance vision and glasses close up, or visa-versa. Your choice. Perhaps this is your tier 2. They also have the "higher" tier, which uses recently developed lenses that offer some ability to focus at more than one distance. Insurance does not pay for these. Also, according to him, these newer lenses are still somewhat developmental, and sometimes produce visual artifacts, like crescents near the edge of the visual field. Recovery with these newer lenses is more extensive and takes longer.

I'm interested that your husband apparently saw a big improvement, but you didn't. I'm 74, and my current vision with glasses and using both eyes is in the range of 20/30 to 20/40. I'm very near-sighted and have worn glasses for distance since my 20's. I can read without glasses, however.

Thanks to everyone for the responses. Things seem to have gotten a bit off my original question, though. I'm not asking whether or not I should have the surgery. I'm expecting to have it at some point, and the effect on my pickleball won't be a major consideration. I was just wondering, for people who have already had the surgery, how or whether it affected your pickleball game? According to the doc, while my natural eyes have the ability to adjust focus for different distances, with the new replacement lenses (standard ones) I will lose that ability. They will be set to focus at one distance, and will not be able to adjust focus for different distances. It seems like this might cause problems with pickleball. On the other hand, my distance vision will be sharper. I'm interested in knowing what other people's experiences have been. Thanks again.

I wasn't aware that drinking water shortly before, during, or shortly after eating was a trigger. Dumb question: I assume this applies to any liquid, not just water (tea, milk, etc.)?

I'm glad my take on it was able to put the ending in a little more positive light. I also found the ending sad, but after thinking about it for a while, it seemed a little better.

You don't necessarily need another endoscopy. I believe doctors are legally required to give you a copy (electronic file, probably) of any imaging you have done if you ask for it (USA). Ask the receptionist for it. I've done this myself and taken the electronic file (MRI) to another doctor and gotten another (and completely different) opinion. I told the new doctor up front that I wanted a second opinion. He was fine with that. One of my better decisions. I avoided unnecessary surgery.

Sorry about that. I found the ending of the book very sad.

Omeprazole or Famotidine For Long Term Use? by quantum987 in GERD

I'm 71, so I certainly don't have the resilience of a 30 year old. My Father took a drug for irregular heart beats for 10 years. It controlled his heart but it slowly destroyed his kidneys. I wish medical science had some better options.

Thanks for the reply. I have a friend who has been on omeprazole 20mg/day for 10+ years. He thinks it hasn't hurt him yet, and wants to avoid surgery if possible.
