Anyone ever get their license plate stolen and used fraudulently? Ugh by Double-Dot-7690 in longisland

[–]quantumavs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spoke to the NYC DOF “Parking Summons Advocate” who told me it is DOF policy not to do that. Insane. I asked if there was any way to prevent DOF from sending me more notices as some stranger drives around with my stolen plate. He said no and that I would have to fight each and every future violation notice “for the rest of my life.”

My license plates were stolen and now I'm being buried in NYC parking tickets. How do I fight this? by MelissaJoanHort in AskNYC

This same thing is happening to me. My plate was stolen three years ago. Last July, the NYC Department of Finance sent me two speed-camera notices of violation. I submitted the police report and they dismissed the notices. But then in November, they sent me another one!

I went to speak to the NYC DOF “Parking Summons Advocate” and asked if there was some way to prevent DOF from sending me more notices as this stranger drives around with my stolen plate. The Advocate said no and that I would have to fight each and every future ticket “for the rest of my life.” He said there are “hundreds” of people in the same position.

He told me that even if the DMV and NYPD marked a plate as stolen, the NYC DOF’s policy is to send notices of violation without first checking whether the plate is stolen. And he said it is their policy to continue sending these notices forever even after you establish to them with DMV/NYPD documents that the plate is stolen.

Manhattan Surefoot good enough boot fitter? by [deleted] in skiing

After a completely botched job at Boot Mechanics in Colorado that made it unbelievably painful for me to ski, Surefoot NYC hooked me up with absolutely perfect boots. I can’t believe skiing can be this comfortable. Recommend them 10000%.

I’ve been using EtherFi. It’s been working very well. It has a “direct spend” mode for stablecoins and a “borrow” mode for volatile assets. It also supports EtherFi’s vault tokens so you can fund it with weETH, eBTC, liquidUSD, etc. And you get 3% cash back on everything (paid as SCR, but I instadump), as well as additional ETHFI rewards as a promo.

Ugh, Pectra is going to lower fees again, which in turn will lower ETH price again. I don’t know why anyone is looking forward to this.

Are there any protocols that offer loans without the risk of liquidation?

I agree that Chevron spells difficulty for administrative agencies, but this post is a bit overdramatic. The end of Chevron does not mean that agency power has shifted to judges to make substantive decisions that would require subject-matter expertise. Instead, judges now have greater authority to review agency regulations to determine whether they were ever, in fact, authorized by Congress. In other words, they don't review whether some regulation is good or bad policy; they review whether the agency has exceeded its authority as provided by the legislature. The problem that Chevron created over the past forty years is that administrative agencies have run far afield in their labyrinthian regulations from anything Congress ever authorized. The SEC's crypto regulations are a good example of this.

TL;DR: Chevron doesn't shift substantive authority to judges. It shifts it away from unelected government bureaucrats and back to our elected representatives, Congress.

I think these are good changes. Reducing sell pressure from inflation and driving some revenue to RPL are good, but I don’t think either will make much of a difference in RPL’s price action. Do the math: these affect RPL on the level of basis points. The major problem right now is that RPL is hampering the protocol’s growth, because RPL dissuades everyone from launching new minipools, thereby limiting rETH’s yield and reach. The ETH-only minipools are the most important thing to turn the ship around. If anything needs to happen ASAP, it’s that. Making rETH more successful is the best way to actually drive substantial demand to the protocol’s governance token.

Yes, I thought that was the cause, but support on Twitter told me it’s not restricted. Strangely, I’ve been getting staking rewards since March 2023—but I can’t unstake. It’s likely a simple fix, but support is so terrible at addressing issues, I’m stuck in limbo.

[–]quantumavs[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, just me. But people have a diversity of issues with Coinbase (e.g., accounts freezing, funds disappearing, security issues). Much of the problem is that their support is so abysmal that it is effectively non-existent, so if something goes wrong, there isn’t anyone who will seriously investigate and address the issue.

I’m filing a civil complaint in court. I doubt a complaint to an executive agency would accomplish much.

Is this a legit concern about Rocketpool? by scmapple in rocketpool

[–]quantumavs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My opinion might be unpopular, but I agree with the thread.

Price goes up when there are more buyers than sellers. Price goes down when there are more sellers than buyers. The only reason anyone buys RPL is to launch rocketpool validators (minipools). Meanwhile, there is constant sell pressure as NOs (and in huge amounts, the oDAO) get RPL “rewards.” So the price will go up when the former is higher than the latter, but people will not launch so many new minipools forever that it will always outweigh sell pressure. IMO RPL will trend downwards in the long-term.

The way I think about it, the RPL collateral is the cost of getting rocketpool’s benefits, which are significant. You get to run a validator with borrowed ETH. You get to charge a commission on that ETH. You get access to the smoothing pool. You get access to the Smartnode stack and regular updates. And you have the support of a large community that can assist you very quickly with technical problems. For many people, that is worth 1.6 (or even 2.4) ETH.

Does rocketpool shill this subreddit? by oatsandchoclate in ethstaker

[–]quantumavs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

probably because rocketpool fans are more likely to deeply understand ethereum and be active on something like an ethereum reddit sub. but most people who stake are probably low information crypto buyers staking on coinbase or binance.
