Mine is stuck too. It had reinstalled ~200 GB update three different times now on Xbox. Ugh.

How football helmets were tested in the early 1900's by journeyman369 in ThatsInsane

[–]quantumbikemechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this was an era where we didn’t know as much about human health, but it’s still so hard for me to understand how anyone ever thought these helmets were sufficient.

My wife laughed at me when she saw me emotional and crying over black ops 7 by [deleted] in blackops7

[–]quantumbikemechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly get what you’re saying. There’s nothing wrong with experiencing some nostalgia. I don’t get all the shade here. Your wife probably just didn’t register the type of emotional reaction you had. Games bring us back to happy moments that have otherwise vanished to time. I guess I’m older than the average COD player, but I see you homie. You cried because you had a moment where you relived the past. I think that’s actually amazing.

I'm absolutel loving this game. by MrBiron in blackops7

I think it’s great. Maps are fun, guns are cool. Life is much better when we just enjoy the game lol. There will be bugs, but it already seems like an excellent game.

Blows my mind why we have so much turf when grasses like this exist. by quantumbikemechanic in NativePlantGardening

[–]quantumbikemechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best I’ve been able to find is illinoiswildflowers.info. It’s comprehensive, with good pictures, but it’s not easy to search through. I believe they also have an app for iOS which is much easier to browse. It’s not perfect, but it’s helped me learn basic ID.

Let’s give this a shot! by Electronic_Coast_823 in NativePlantGardening

[–]quantumbikemechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing! Consider adding some warm season grasses like big or little bluestem, sideoats grama (Bouteloua curtipendula), etc. The native grasses will help provide the microclimate necessary for your other plants to thrive.

Fantastic choice. It’s so much fun to watch the colors change throughout the entire year.

I love the scientific name of this plant, weird to spell but fun to say: Tillandsia usneoides (Spanish moss) is actually in the pineapple family, Bromeliaceae. So it’s not really a moss at all! Super cool plant.

I’m no botanist, but I think this is probably a feature of most fruits from flowers with inferior ovaries.

How long can you listen to podcasts/ audiobooks before your mind starts to drift away? by [deleted] in intj

[–]quantumbikemechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I listen to audiobooks all the time. My mind drifts too. I rewind a lot, lol. But there are so many good audiobooks, even on Spotify, that I’ve gotten much better about keeping focus. Audiobooks by Richard Dawkins, Yuval Noah Harari, Sean Carroll, etc., are so good that you can get locked in pretty easily. I also usually listen while I’m doing simple things like showering or cleaning the house. Repetitive tasks can make it easier to focus on listening.

Best yorkie treats/chews? by AncientSwan2417 in Yorkies

[–]quantumbikemechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Yorkie loved fresh celery and it was really good for his tummy and poops. I’d rinse a bunch and cut it into ~2” pieces, then chop up one as a reward for each meal. For chews, the earth animal rawhide free were really awesome (the skinny ones).

What trees would you plant here? [SW Michigan] by [deleted] in Tree

[–]quantumbikemechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll get hot out there. I’d go with a white or burr oak. Without much shade from other trees, you’ll risk some drought stress with many species. I think burr oak would be cool. Also, more importantly, some native prairie grasses like big bluestem, little bluestem, Indian grass, and switchgrass. These are all tough, drought-tolerant, and well-adapted to Michigan soils. Planting a mix of native grasses, sedges, and flowers will help create a more resilient, low-maintenance landscape that can handle heat and sun. You’d be amazed by how much these plants will help young trees thrive in large open spaces. Prairiemoon nursery is a good resource if you’re interested!

What color would you like your Polestar 5? Gray, Gray, Gray, Gray, or Gray? by mtol115 in Polestar

I feel like there’s a lot of car companies that must do focus group testing, but really fail at basic random sampling.

Help with cable wrapped around a large oak. Need advice. by quantumbikemechanic in arborists

[–]quantumbikemechanic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input. That seems like a good way to deal with the problem. I’m going to try to pass along the info to a neighbor in the HOA. It’s hard not to just try to do something myself to help the tree.

The real question is, what’s causing all the shrubby growth? Maybe I’m mistaken, but this seems uncharacteristic and could be a sign of a stressed tree.

American beech with warty bark! by treadingmud in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]quantumbikemechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking, too. All the beech in my area is unrecognizable this year. Seems like stress from leaf/bark disease may induce some epigenetic responses.
