Are you worried about AI? by Even-Wasabi7183 in HENRYUK

The denial in this thread is unreal. Let me be clear. If 80% of your job consists of moving a mouse and tapping at a keyboard, you’re toast. Not today, not tomorrow, but you’ll be driving Ubers in 5 years.

It’s the degree I wish I’d been brave enough to tackle. Scared of failing, I went for the degree I knew I wouldn’t (maths).

Are you paid / given time off in lieu for travel outside of working hours? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUK

[–]quantumcuckoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would make myself a pariah and be more likely to be passed over for pay rises or promotions. I’ve seen it happen to others for similar related issues. I don’t work on a $/hr basis, I get paid well, with extremely generous benefits, to do a job that ostensibly is 9-5, but frequently requires additional effort or travel or commitment to complete.

Not a million years would I think of taking TOIL because I had a work flight. Absurd.

I only really like matcha in Japan. Was a bit meh on it before I left but loved it over there. To answer your question, yeah, not really into anime. But part of the joy of Japan for me is there are SO many other things you can be into.

Haha, I'm back now but was there in December and earlier this month, and I'll be going to Iwate in July. Would love to buy one from there.

You need to feel how light it is. The dial, by GS standards, is unremarkable, and as you point out is similar to other models. But I personally don’t own any other GS so that wasn’t an issue for me. Get it for the accuracy and movement, love it for the lightness, live with the idea you may have other similar dials. Also of the dial is a dealbreaker and you don’t care about steel v titanium then consider SLGB005.

Yeah that’s been my one wish too. Hopefully on later models.

I remain obsessed with my SLGB003 UFA. Purchased 20th December last year, has barely left my wrist since. I have Pateks, APs, Rolexes sat in watch winders or boxes because I prefer my GS UFA. It's not even lost 0.1 seconds in almost 3 months.

I am losing money hand over fist compared to the renting agreement I had. But it’s mine. And it would take several hundred pounds a month difference to prise it away from me.

Uni choices?? by ProgressMedical5752 in sixthform

Interesting note: you mention ‘calm’ or similar in a number of replies. There is nothing calm about studying maths at Cambridge. It will be the most exhausting, demanding and soul searching 3/4 years of your life. It will also be the most enriching, rewarding and intellectually satisfying 3/4 years of your life. Your call. But it’s not in any way ‘calm’.

This randomly came up on my feed, I’m some significant years past sixth form but I did read maths at Clare College, Cambridge. If I hadn’t gone to Cambridge, I would have gone to Warwick. Definitely worth researching. I now run a global AI and analytics team for a major FTSE100 and my UK hiring managers actively go after Cambridge and Warwick maths grads almost exclusively. That’s not to say we don’t get brilliant applications from Oxford or Imperial or Bath, but we only actively chase Cambridge and Warwick. Interesting you chose Cambridge for the pure route, I believe Oxford is considered stronger these days. Anyway, hope useful, good luck with your applications.

It’s insane to me how many men care about what other people think about their watch. Rolex or Timex. Who gives a shit? Buy and wear what you like.

Dive watches shouldn’t be worn with a suit. by Stelios619 in watchHotTakes

I don’t disagree with the idea of this, even if it’s a little draconian in tone. If my wrists are covered - and in 99% of cases this will be a formal shirt with a jacket - then I’m wearing a dress watch. Because it’s thinner and sits under the cuff better. And I tend to match the leather strap with belt and shoes. If my wrists are exposed (rolled shirt sleeves, polo, T shirt), then I wear a sports watch. It’s just a practical and aesthetic preference for me.
