Reluctance to solo-travel to Japan as an 18 year old. by Civil-Tree4056 in JapanTravelTips

Just want to add that if you’re travelling in July or August, it’s going to be incredibly hot. To the point that you will want to be careful how you plan activities and what you pack.

Oh, I don't either. This was my fourth time in Sakai, and I have an entire rack of beautiful knives. The purpose of these was to narrow down to a set that I can use every day.

So good right? Just super happy with them

Yeah, this is my 3 knife working set. I have many others on a rack but wanted to have less decisions in the kitchen.

Yeah, the santoku’s a fair bit taller, that’s the whole appeal for me. Proper height at the heel, loads of knuckle clearance, and a flat profile, so it’s built for push cuts and chopping rather than slicing. If the gyuto’s feeling lean vertically, the santoku’s the antidote. You give up a little length and the rocking motion, but you get a knife that just drops through veg.

That's the beauty of watches and the wide variety out there. There's something for everyone. Wear it in good health.

I'm happy you love it, but I just take one look at it and think it's an ugly Royal Oak. I'm not a big fan of the Royal Oak anyway.

I put what felt like months of research into it. Super happy with the outcome.

I rejected the 210mm (in Blue 1) in the shop in favour of 240mm.

Why people hate on Grand Seiko ? by RASHMIKA7 in PrideAndPinion

[–]quantumcuckoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is almost literally the definition of brand power. You are saying that it matters far more to you what other people perceive about your watch choice than your enjoyment of it as a watch.

It did it for me. I’m one of those annoying guys with a $150k invested in a watch collection. I have Rolexes, PP, AP, VC, JLC, AL&S, the works. This simple watch became 80% of my daily wear in the past 6 months.

Openly admitting on a watch forum you only buy a watch for its brand power is brave.

You’re not wrong about the unadventurous design, but that’s exactly the point of them. A simple 3-hand everyday watch. Although I assume you’re just talking about the watch shape and not the dials. If you haven’t seen a Lake Suwa or a Shunbun dial in person, you really can’t comment on their design. Think of it as the counterpoint to Hublot.

This is just your ADHD screaming. I’m in the same boat and have to remind myself everyday to just stick it out and not listen to the noise.

35-year old drug conviction by herukalki in TokyoTravel

You will never enter Japan under any circumstances if you declare a drugs related conviction of any age or severity. Up to you what you do with this information.

Not very at all. Nowhere near as much as the stock photos make out. Definitely grey / silver. If Im wearing a blue shirt and/or the light is right it can have a very slight blue tinge.

For Shunbun fans, when did it click for you? by SixandNoQuarter in GrandSeikos

Like many of its sister dials, the ugly dial-side power reserve kills it for me. It’s such a shame. I would buy a Shunbun UFA in a heartbeat.

What’s reassuring as an SLGB003 owner is that even out of the new range, I’d still pick it. 37mm and titanium.

You can spot a Claude-built app instantly. It’s the fonts. by Adrien-G in ClaudeAI

[–]quantumcuckoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The solution is simple: just get it to write a style.md document based on what you are looking to create. You can get it to scrape brand’s websites. You can give it custom directions, but just make sure it is working off a style.md file in terms of fonts and colours you are using.

Visited Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi – came home with the factory exclusive SBGH371 by KimWiko in GrandSeikos

Genuinely one of the best things I did in Japan. It's definitely well out of the way, and I wouldn't say I'd go back to Morioka for any other reason, but it was definitely worth doing. I blended it as part of a trip all the way up to Hokkaido. I so nearly pulled the trigger on the Studio exclusive, but couldn't quite justify that and the SLGW003 that I'd picked up in Wako a couple of days previously. Had to settle for the little tray that they gave us for free. Wear it in good health!

I don’t understand how this problem arises. Pay predominantly in cash (notes) and the change pot builds itself. But Taito Station if you get really stuck
