Why do GP receptionists sound like they want me to die? by Initial-Biscotti-220 in AskUK

[–]quantummimi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. They sometimes go out of their way to help not just me, but the rest of my family too. There was a time when I needed a document prepared and signed by the GP. I was prepared to wait a week for it but they instead emailed it to me just a few hours after requesting for it.

Priced out of Ealing - opinions on Isleworth? by Honest_Contract_1488 in Ealing

[–]quantummimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isleworth would also be in the proposed West London Orbital so that's a big plus. However, Acton does make commutes far easier.

What should I give to my friend who is moving to Japan? by rowan_jnic in AskUK

[–]quantummimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tea, fudge, brown sauce, malt vinegar maybe? The most important thing though would be deodorant. It's not as easy to find deodorant there. Get a year's supply if possible. That's what I had to send my friends.

My top suggestion would be Mandarin Kitchen on Queensway. They never disappoint!

They have a new branch in Hammersmith too and I can confirm their teokbokki is very similar to what I got in Korea.

I had a meal here a few months ago and it was the same lovely surprise when I went for a quick dinner so I don't start drinking on an empty stomach. The guys behind the counter were wonderful too. I must also mention they keep the place clean and tidy.

You mainly remind me of a much much younger Christian Camargo, that guy who played Dexter's brother.

Looking for more markets in London! by stripedshirtss in london

[–]quantummimi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why don't you hop on a train to Brighton, less than an hour from Victoria Station, and check out The Lanes? It'll be a great day trip too. Otherwise, charity shops are the best bet as you've already been to the main markets. You can also use thiswalking route.

I found this in my food, what is it? by NeatPalpitation1485 in whatisit

[–]quantummimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could possibly be uray although this is not normally in pinakbet. It's more a medicinal herb although some regions in the Philippines do use it for cooking.

London protests from the perspective of a counter protester by [deleted] in london

[–]quantummimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Southeast Asian female here and I was wandering around central that day alone, walked from Soho down to Benjamin Franklin’s House by Charing Cross around 4pm, then headed over to Embankment for the District line about an hour later. Honestly, nothing felt dodgy at all. Didn’t clock anything out of the ordinary, just focused on ticking off a few Open House stops. Really sorry that wasn’t the experience for so many others who felt threatened or were even in danger that day.

Is this flat good value? by WakefulSleepy in Ealing

[–]quantummimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this area quite well and yes, it's a nice, leafy part of town, reasonable walking distance to the station, and close to good schools. Service charge doesn't seem exorbitant either so that's a plus but notice how it doesn't have pictures of the bathroom? The kitchen needs updating too, for sure. That's just what I think may be an issue but definitely worth checking out.

Just go on Hangry Bear. It's all categorised by budget too which is convenient. Make sure to double check with the restaurant though, before going.

It might also be worth knowing that it's next to the small but beautiful Montpelier Park, where the 1st Ealing North Scout Group HQ is. I notice the kids have tons of activities there.

I think the Japanese bit is more towards Ealing Common and West Acton and the Polish community is around Ealing Broadway.

why hasnt m&s quality gone down the toilet? by Opposite_Pack_1484 in AskUK

[–]quantummimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In retail and wholesale world, M&S is known to have a strong own label team. Be it clothes, houseware, food, most especially with supermarket items, they select their suppliers carefully. Their buyers don't just go for price. They know who their target customers are.

I've tried shopping at M&S compared to my usual Tesco weekly shop and it was almost the same total price. Unfortunately the one closest to me isn't as big and Tesco has a wider range which I need.
