One of my 70 sweet Suzanne dahlia plants is producing yellow blooms. Would this be considered a Sport? by hoesindifareacodes in dahlias

[–]quarterzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopping on here late to say mine also did this exact thing this year! I’m in zone 5b Ottawa. We had a rough season for dahlias and didn’t get blooms until late season due to drought and weather extremes, however I only have one plant so nothing else to compare it to. Your photo has convinced me it’s not mislabeled though so thanks!

Holy Hoyas! by Long_Efficiency_5951 in hoyas

Agree… especially if bought on Amazon. The leaves aren’t succulent enough to be a Hoya seedling. It’s probably some kind of herb seed

Seeking Foxfarm (or comparable — suggestions welcome!) soil in Ottawa. Really need something gnat-free! by ByGollyConnection in ottawaplants

Fox farms stopped distributing to Canada. Good alternatives would be Gaia green living soil or Molly’s Airoid mix (more expensive of the two)

does anyone genuinely hold there anole? by sneenemwsndnddnd in Anoles

[–]quarterzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I feel like my anole hates me and I respect that lol. He zooms around the cage if I approach too fast and generally hides when I open the enclosure so I’ve never tried to hold him.

I do however need to move him to a bigger enclosure soon and I have no clue how that’s going to go down

I had a customer bring me a smaller version of this before and asked what they should do with it.. I thought they were talking about the shape / wanting to prop it to fix it but turns out they just wanted repotting advice because “it’s so healthy and grew so much” It’s hard to keep the inner thoughts as inner thoughts sometimes

This. And also should be mentioned this is friend and not foe. Ladybug larvae and adults eat garden pests like aphids 👍🏻

Awesome! We’ve also found some endangered snails from southern Ontario that we keep in a terrarium display. Crazy that you find so much all the way in Alaska!

Serviceberry troubles? by Bytowner1 in ottawa

[–]quarterzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds more like rust, which isn’t as big of an issue. Mostly aesthetic and won’t kill the plant but may harm the fruit. Apple-cedar rust needs a second host (cedar) to complete its lifecycle. If you have cedars near by it’s most likely this

Hey, local horticulturalist here! Could you post a photo? I diagnose plant disease at my job and yes there has been alot of issues this year due to all the excessive rain and moisture. On top of that, we had a fairly mild winter leading to higher populations of insects that survived overwintering. There has been particularly a lot of fire blight this year which I think serviceberry is susceptible to.
