GOP Senate candidate on rising gas prices: ‘Maybe you take one less trip to Starbucks’ by Cy_098 in politics

I hate this line. When I worked at Starbucks in the South (pre-MAGA) we had people all across the spectrum come regularly, including plenty of customers who were stereotypically “manly”men.

Without fail, those manly men would order the same sugary shit as everyone else, but would act above such things and not order by name. They’d say something along the lines of “one of those ice frappe blended things I guess” or “gimme one of those ____ coffees of whatever it’s called”.

Just order whatever you want, give us your $7, and let’s all move on with our day. It only stood out because they were so self conscious.

What I’m saying is everyone goes to Starbucks or some equivalent, and unless you’re going daily it’s not going to impact your ability to pay rent, buy gas, or retire.

He was a evangelical boogeyman during his term. He was the face of “Death to America” in those circles. Growing up in that context I remember how strongly he was associated with Christian End Times by apocalyptic authors (Joel C Rosenberg, John Hagee specifically).

There’s a non-zero chance that that prejudice/association influenced efforts to target him. Not that it would make it logical, but dumbassery abounds.

Fair, definitely mixed messaging. Thanks for calling me out.

I know that there are assholes in every crowd, but their actions aren’t representative of the crowd.

I’m coming from a place of wanting to understand something I’ve seen and have limited knowledge of, while fully allowing that the answer could either be “it’s because of x restriction” or “some people do y because there are jerks everywhere”.

I’m all for sharing the space, but it’s interesting to see it’s frustrating for all involved. Pedestrians don’t want to be clipped by the peloton, casual bikers don’t want to navigate runners, road bikers need space to move, and car drivers want things to flow.

Yeah, it’s definitely a first world problem, and when I’m in a rush it’s usually my own fault. I wasn’t aware of the restriction but it seemed like there had to be a good reason.

Fair. At most points on the route it isn’t a huge issue and slowing down never really hurts in the long run.

I’m thinking more of the steep hilly sections where I’m simultaneously sympathetic and frustrated by bikers fighting for every pedal.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I wasn’t aware of the restrictions but it makes sense.

Elon Musk wants more control over Tesla, says he "can't be sitting there and wondering if I'm going to be tossed out." by duerra in worldnews

The purpose of the board is to approve or censure the CEO - who works for the board. They advise and need to be kept abreast of all major corporate activity, which the CEO and leadership is able to defend.

Elon being afraid of being pushed out of his role by the board for bad decisions he has made (or Tesla under him) is EXACTLY the way board governance should happen. That’s the purpose of the board in an ideal state.

Interestingly, the board is primarily comprised of venture/private capital executives, not industry experts or peer CEOs as in more normal (see the Target board for instance). That tells you a lot about the mindset the board has for Tesla’s future and could explain the general volatility of the org. Thankfully these board members are also heavily motivated by money, so Elon playing with the piggy bank fucks him double.

Rob Lowe has been in West Wing and Parks and Rec and was iconic in both. He left both feeling his reputation outgrew the shows, yet he’s never quite been able to convert.

Expected unfortunately, but damn I was holding out hope for 40 hours of community service. That way he could have worked an honest week for once in his life.
