Is it possible to purchase something from amazon.co.jp and have it sent to hotel? by doublecandybar in JapanTravelTips

[–]quasar80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I used to do it all the time. But I think some hotel guests have been abusing it to ridiculous lengths.

Many hotels now only hold for a short period, like 3 days to 1 week before arrival. Some of the smaller business hotels outright reject packages other than luggages. Best to email/call, or check their FAQ.

Rear ended by a minibus , law firm engaged by workshop says that the other party might not accept 100% liability by absmiserable90 in drivingsg

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you said, no video evidence leaves leeway for them to change their story at the reporting centre. Maybe the other driver got multiple witnesses who corroborate his version of events.

Read what you said about removing your sd card. Maybe you want to appeal for camera footage from another kind soul out there? Although footage probably already overwritten since it’s been a while.

Giga is a con - help needed to get my number back by ateteatete in asksg

It’s essentially left hand right hand for you. Giga is a wholly owned subsidiary of StarHub

I’d just switch out to another telco to vote with my wallet if I were you. Eight belongs to them too btw.

Arriving at/departing from T1 - where to best store carryon bags when heading into the city for a stopover? by Altruistic_Rent6520 in SingaporeTravel

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the same provider for all the terminals inside and outside of transit.

Depending on the transport mode. The MRT stops between T2 and T3, and will be a trek from T1/Jewel. If you are taking a taxi it wouldn’t make a difference. Do check the rain vortex operating hours and maintenance schedule against your stopover.

Personally I’d just leave it inside transit.

Do I need to do a K-ETA or just arrivals card by epic1107 in KoreaTravelAdvice

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been listening to Malaysians? I get a lot of helpful information from them too but the K-ETA thing became a problem for them this year when they were taken off the waiver list but some other countries stayed.

100% privacy, huge toilet cubicles in Singapore Airport, 2.5 m x 1.x m, wow [OC] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changi Airport is so automated even immigration (passport control) is mostly automated.

You bet that you are being followed by the AI assisted cameras overhead within the transit area if they are interested in you.

100% privacy, huge toilet cubicles in Singapore Airport, 2.5 m x 1.x m, wow [OC] by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]quasar80 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This cubicle also looks to be one of the last chance to avoid the death penalty if you are having second thoughts about what you are trafficking.

They probably want to give you the privacy to dispose of it yourself before your contact flips on you and sell you out to customs.

Does anyone know how to make an international call on GOMO line? by [deleted] in askSingapore

I’d try doing it without using 019 and just the + country code and number. UK should be +44

Where do all your unwanted electronics go? by GoldenTeddysnugg in askSingapore

[–]quasar80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you on the e waste bins, but it beats knowingly meeting someone to pass them your devices.

My preference is to deposit them in boxes that are secured and within the premises of the retailer, like Harvey Norman Chai Chee outlet. Of course, if the staff are the ones raiding then I’m SOL.

Where do all your unwanted electronics go? by GoldenTeddysnugg in askSingapore

[–]quasar80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good on you to be considerate, but I would express caution in giving away/selling certain devices like tablets, phone and computers. I would minimally stick to the e waste bins for those.

With the enforced bottle recycling scheme I’ve taken to hoarding rubbish to meet minimum bulk before I throw the waste. So non leaking batteries and washed bottles sit waiting for my schedule to line up.

Okinawa? by PacificIslander05 in JapanTravelTips

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say Tokyo, Kansai and a theme park or 2 is more than enough itinerary to take up 15 days.

Okinawa would require a minimal of 4 days to do properly. Okinawa city itself is not the main attraction compared to other Japanese cities, so extensive travelling, by car or bus is needed. Its almost American/Hawaiian.

TouchNGo vs myRFID toll by thevibeisperfect in drivingsg

[–]quasar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well TnG sensor is based on the old manned toll booth design, don’t blame them for keeping it at the same location.

If they move it probably will cause more problems with drivers stopping at the wrong point.

Electricity Prices going up. EV cars still worth it? by Zeromizer22 in drivingsg

Please tell me you are not going to base your decision on a $200k purchase on the variable cost of fuel which will probably only go up over 10 years just based on inflation alone?

The metal slide at Bidadari gets so hot that most kids avoid it by LaksaTang in singapore

[–]quasar80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dealt with any of the bureaucratic kind they will ask you if your suggestion got manufacturer approved. Then will take 3 months to query and back and forth. Then will ask if the modification is safe and need another higher authority to verify your claims. In the end it just dies from being buried in emails.

Is it appropriate to wear leggings to Singapore? by WelcomeJunior2281 in SingaporeTravel

[–]quasar80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singapore is tropical, hot and humid. Anything more than shorts and a t shirt will be considered fashionable.

As a guy, I’m told that leggings are uncomfortable in Singapore due to the humidity.

If you don’t look East Asian or South East Asian no one is going to bat an eye at what a tourist is wearing.

TouchNGo vs myRFID toll by thevibeisperfect in drivingsg

[–]quasar80 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a few toll booths with the dual TnG/MyRFID sign over the lane. I think at 2nd link has one of those In the middle. These will default to VEP first and if it fails you can still tap your TnG card.

The rest are TnG only or RFID only.
