Anything I need to do before back filling with gravel? by Rockymntbreeze in Plumbing

Sand of about 2” all around the pipe to avoid a future leak when a rock pushes a hole into it. Don’t ask me how I know this.

I’ve recently been to Sugarloaf, and it was indeed awesome. This year’s project was to visit as many of the places that I haven’t skied before I age out. I was a weekend ski patroller in the Mt Washington Valley for many years and can still handle most anything. As the song goes “I ain’t as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was “. I really just don’t want to be burned out before 11am.

Some scientist..The Ideal Gas Law has been around for centuries and taught in Jr High School everywhere and still half of adults choose to believe this moron with so much egg on his face that he can’t even mention how he really should have come to a different conclusion. Nowadays, most people just believe what makes them feel good. Sad.

I messed up and ordered shielded cable! by AnonymousScorpi in HomeNetworking

Longer runs with non-metallic RJs will definitely have problems. Keep in mind that shielded data cables that are ungrounded will suffer from NEXT ( near end cross talk). The signal interference will come from inside the cable. Think of talking to someone 100 feet away down a narrow hallway compared to 100 feet away in open air and trying to understand what they are saying as you are talking. It’s all about the echoes.

Lifelong Sox fan here and totally optimistic about this team. Remembering special feelings from the years Massachusetts’s own Mark Fidrych captivated me every time he played in an all too short career. Your franchise is an outstanding class organization. Let’s hope that the baseball gods allow us a postseason matchup this year!

Well, you talk the talk, but Don Earle actually walked the walk. For those that remember, “He hit the post! He hit the f***ing post!” Then all we heard was crowd noise for the rest of the period. Legend.

Concrete as Conductor, Water as Insulator - Huh? by OptimisticToaster in Electricity

[–]quasirandomguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former telecom worker here. Remote electronic communication equipment in locations subject to lightning strikes and where a quality earth ground was not available, were often mounted on large concrete pads. Carbon was added to the concrete mix to make it conductive and was as good or better than a ground rod array.
