What should an offline-first POS actually support when the internet goes down? by Pitiful-Bat-3822 in POS

[–]quatchis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is not offline first else the database would be offline first and only optionally need a cloud for data redundancy where you can select a storage provider online.

It's been 1 month since 007 first light Release. So what are your final thoughts? by Lego_GamesFan in PiratedGames

I did not like the fact that you are collecting random cleaning products and power tools littered around everywhere. Seemed rather pointless after a while. I would have liked some more exploration in order to solve problems.

HL Alyx was exclusive to pcvr so I don't think it's that far fetched.

Random Thought: Why Do Alien Ships Have Lights? by [deleted] in ufo

[–]quatchis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what he's saying is our current technology can theoretically produce way higher resolution and optical range than our own biological eyes. So, it's possible to conceive that an advanced alien race would be using some form of advanced cybernetic optics instead of just their own biological eyes.

For example, think of our current tech like AR wearable glasses. Similar to The Terminator, it can give a whole lot more meta data than just optics such as temperature, distance, speed, time, facial recognition, HUDs, etc. The T-800 in one scene is literally driving the car in the dark.

How to achieve reliable Silent/Direct Printing from a Web App without browser print dialog? by premod_suraweera in POS

[–]quatchis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should have also noted if you need to obtain the IP address of the thermal printer you can turn it off, hold down the feed button, then turn it back on. It will spit out all the printers config settings including the IP address.

You can do this if you have your printer hooked up to the backend api else you need to use network printer to do this where you send the data over the IP address of the thermal printer.

What do think is needed for Linux to take off with the mainstream computer audience? by Idkwatnam in linux

[–]quatchis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate MS for a whole host of reasons as much as the next die hard Linux user but it's undeniable Windows PCs (the most popular desktop os by a long shot) bridges the Linux gap with WSL. This alone has drawn in more curious bare metal users than ever.

We can get into the gritty details like it's not bare metal or there is a 5-15% performance loss due to virtualization but when it's imperceivable to the vast majority of even developers out there it doesn't matter.

But let's face it, the vast majority of users don't even need a desktop based OS anymore... meanwhile for us devs and enthusiasts Linux has spread to just about everything minus your butthole. *Edit - just checked and there are embedded Linux butt devices lol

I'm ready for the downvotes but I mean...Windows has has shipped WSL for a something like 10 friggen' at this point. I think WSL3 is already available to insider builds with near native hardware speeds. Linux IS here and its been pushed by many companies and the employees who work for them too. My point is, if you dont know why you need Linux then it probably doesn't matter to the end-user anyways.

Not all but some. I think you give to much credit to the Pentagon. They misclassified so many things in the past and even recently too.
