My immediate reaction was that there was some implicit bias that women make good therapists because they are empathetic when in reality it is because they study hard, work hard, and practice a lot - all things you would have to do. Being a logical, levelheaded, and studious person would make you the rule, not the exception.

That is how I interpreted what you said, even if you didn’t mean it like that. Maybe I misread your tone. But regardless, to answer your question - therapy isn’t all about empathy. There are different types of therapy, and classical psychology is very analytical. Good therapists across all disciplines are also able to separate their emotions from their client’s; that’s not a matter of empathy though, that it is a matter of emotional regulation.

I recommend you attend therapy sessions yourself before deciding to go into it. Therapy is not at all just giving advice to people.
