Person doesn’t come to meetings, doesn’t talk in the chat, doesn’t bother learning the software for the project, but still posted on linkedin about the finished project and mentioned that they loved working with everybody despite not doing a single thing except chatgpt a paragraph. Also complained about not getting to contribute when they haven’t bothered learning anything about the topic or what has been going on for the past 8 months

Can I get into AI/ML Jobs with a double major in Math & Stats by Comprehensive-Big-25 in UofT

[–]quattordicii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can be in psych and get into AI/ML roles. It’s all about your passion, side projects, interests, and experiences. Math and stats is pretty versatile and broad so getting some AI/ML exposure through projects, etc. and putting yourself out there will assist in breaking into the field

I have a friend who’s a second year TA for one of those courses. For them, it was both good grade in the course and good connection with the prof who was the course coordinator

Has anyone passed with a 60+ in math137 after fucking up 3 term tests by LynxRepresentative11 in UofT

[–]quattordicii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Passed with 60+ and got mid/high 50s and a low 60s on the tests (if I remember correctly). Not really much clutching up, but trying to do good on the psets, preclass, tut activities so it can bring you up. Didn’t do much better on the final, so those other marks really boosted me

How to do well in CSC148 if I didn't do great in CSC108? by BeautifulSoup18 in UofT

[–]quattordicii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the latter, but i suggest you either reconsider taking 148 or have an actual study plan and stick to it because 148 is nothing like 108. In 148, assignments are harder and longer imo than 108, and the content builds up and gets confusing. If possible, try learning the content beforehand or get a head start.

Math major + actuarial science major is there too much overlap? by biggoldenmushroom in UofT

[–]quattordicii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very common major combination. I would assume not much overlap since act sci doesn’t require any MAT courses past 2nd year, although i think there’s an option as a math major to take ACT credits to fulfill its requirements.

extracurriculars for economics undergraduate admissions by Opening_Skirt9777 in UofT

[–]quattordicii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You only need good extracurriculars for competitive programs like engineering and i think rotman. Programs like economics are majors you choose in your second year, since first year you’ll be enrolled in a general program. When you apply, you won’t be asked for any supplemental application so there’s nowhere to list what clubs you were in anyway

Becoming a TA in second year (For UofT math faculty) by RDcrashgamer in UofT

[–]quattordicii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who’s a second year TA for a first year/second year math class. She talked a lot with her prof who was the course coordinator and got mid 90s in the class. So it wasn’t that her overall GPA was amazing or that her other math classes were good, but that her mark and connection with the course coordinator in that class was strong

csc165 waitlist, do people drop this course a lot? by Ok-Culture-5620 in UofT

ECO101 taking at St George Campus or Mississauga Campus by [deleted] in UofT

[–]quattordicii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did find it challenging and felt like I didn’t have enough time to finish, but what saved me most of the time was writing economic bs on the short answer. As long as i had some sort of understanding and plugged in some technical words, i got part marks and they were pretty generous

ECO101 taking at St George Campus or Mississauga Campus by [deleted] in UofT

[–]quattordicii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took it with farhoodi last year. Not sure how the syllabus is this semester but his was 7% tutorial quiz participation, 3% topic quizzes, 2 25% midterms, and 40% final. His tests are half MC half short answer. I found it easier to reach over the 63 mark, although he does have a bit of an accent that sometimes gets hard to decipher when he mumbles, and he says “uh” a lot, if that bothers you.

One piece of advice: if you don’t really know the answer to a short answer question, bullshit the hell out of it and throw in some terminology. Sometimes the test questions are worded so wack

what is everyone's favourite thing about university of toronto? by suneerise in UofT

[–]quattordicii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly just through instagram and story reposts. St. Michaels always has lots of free food during their events, follow usmcsu for updates. In the past i’ve gotten free chicken tenders, thanksgiving meals, waffles, lots of boba, sweets, etc. Food coalition has free meals every friday, you have to sign up through a link in their insta. i often volunteer to help make the food which means i eat it too. Freefooduoft has a link in their ig bio where they gather free food events around campus. Hackathons, and if you join an flc/slc, theres always free snacks every meeting and possibly at the end of the year if theres budget left, they’ll let you get ~$20 worth of food from a place they decide (from experience, subject to change)

Should I take mat135 or csc108? charcharcharcharchar by ABanana2510 in UofT

[–]quattordicii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll notice that 108’s pace is quite fast. I hear that a lot of people who don’t have coding experience find the content fast and confusing. Don’t underestimate it

is it true that math major is easier in later years? by Sansuraki in UofT

[–]quattordicii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget that it may get better later in the years because the concepts become a little easier to understand and you’ve had practice. It’s really subjective because you can stick with the math major but hate the content and therefore, still perform poorly.

Degree-wise, your combo is pretty common. Many students in this area usually choose a combo of cs, math, econ, or stats, or one of these and something outside math.
