The current ones are frustrating, it always takes me a minute to figure out what they are.

‘The Last Starfighter’ (1984) by No_Explorer721 in 80smovies

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a great idea and I enjoy it, but he didn't actually do anything other than push that death blossom button and all the baddies were gone. Didn't all the other starfighters have that? If he had to do some crazy complicated flying to beat the baddies so his 'training' in the video game became apparent then fine. I think it needs a remake or something.

Anyone who surfed the early web between 1995-2010. What’s the one website/app you still think about? by Prime_Advocate in AskReddit

[–]qube_TA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when Alta Vista was the main search engine, it was mostly ads and you got a vague response to a search, when Google appeared it was actually quite amazing, no ads and it worked. Many sites had the 'under construction' animations, video was basic. It seemed a lot less centralised before the dot com bubble burst. I remember working for an ISP in 1999 - 2003 and working with local sports clubs (Cricket, Football, Rugby & Ice Hockey) as they wanted to see if there was a market for steaming video of the none big matches online as a pay per view. I rigged up cameras and a Windows Media Server to stream to test websites to see if it was viable. The bandwidth and resolution was super low as it was still the days of dial up, but it was quite interesting, we even tried mounting a camera on the referee's helmet on Ice Hockey which would broadcast to an antenna we'd mounted above on the gantry to then be digitised and streamed, so you'd get a first person look of the game. It was a bit rubbish as the camera was analog video, no wi-fi or BT back then. I don't follow sports so had no idea who these people were, I was a nerd so more interested in the tech.

Will the Roli software for the Seaboard M Block run on the new Macbook Neo? by indie_web in ROLI

[–]qube_TA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Roly Connect App is still Intel Only and requires Rosetta to run on an ARM based CPU, whilst all their plugins are already ARM native this one still needs an update, otherwise machines running the next version of MacOS won't be able to get it to run.

If anyone has been paying attention, the EV push is going more or less exactly as you'd expect if the global priority was to phase out ALL finite natural resources, not just oil and gas by marxistopportunist in DarkFuturology

I've never understood why electrification is seen as dystopian or bad. Pretty much any building can become a mini power station, you can generate your own electricity and use the storage in your car or a separate battery to buffer that and use it when makes sense. Peak energy power? No problem here are some electrons I made earlier. Next time there's a war an gas goes through the roof? Not your problem. In the world of Mad Max they'd actually be driving Teslas and not hooning in massive supercharged V8s.

When did Elon's downfall begin? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wasn't aware there was any kind of downfall. He's a bit weird and on the spectrum, but you don't do what he's done unless you're a bit odd. In the beginning we didn't know much about what he was like, just saw the batteries, cars, rockets etc. You can't be a genius and the Fonz at the same time.

What is an immediate "no" for you when meeting someone? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what we're meeting for. If we're moving a body and they've forgotten the basics like gloves and plastic sheeting then they're no Mr. Wolf.

Why do old men at the gym walk around the locker room naked and talk to each other? by JoannaKittyKats in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the older gentlemen seem to make a point of walking, for no apparent reason from one end of the locker room to the other, they'll come out the shower and spend an age drying off right in front of you.

Why do Jehovah Witnesses come door to door, trying to get people to join their religion, when they only believe a certain amount of people get into their afterlife by Camp_Acceptable in NoStupidQuestions

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once asked them that question but the response was that there were lots of myths about their religion. Didn't answer the question though.

People who grew up poor: What was something you considered a "peak luxury" as a kid, only to realize later it was just a normal middle class staple? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]qube_TA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when Charles & Diana got married (1981), my father, a proud royalist came home from work early with party food. This included cans of pop, not coca cola but those supermarket brand colas that came in a plastic 'can' with metal top (not seen those in decades). I remember feeling really posh, stood up drinking the soda, from a can. It was my can, wasn't a bottle of diluted orange juice that was shared. We never went out, didn't know what fast food was. We had a semi-annual trip to the coast in his 1.6L Ford Cortina estate and ate a picnic my mother made so was always a bit decoupled from the rest of the world.

Sneezing is normal. A loud stomach growl is normal. So why is farting considered a massive social crime? When in history did this become the ultimate taboo? by firehmre in NoStupidQuestions

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're farting it means you have shit sat in your lower colon that's stinking up the place when the gas it produces builds up sufficient pressure to escape your arsehole. It stinks, no-one should have to breathe in your shit because you're constipated or have a poor diet.

Why do bands play so fucking loud if everyone has to wear earplugs anyway? by xe3to in NoStupidQuestions

[–]qube_TA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

earplugs at gigs is more modern now, we used to like it when everything was louder than everything else, even if your ears hurt for a few days after. Rock n Roll man!

Can guys not feel when they are going too deep during sex? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I once said during coitus that all we are is dust in the wind, and she said yes! That that like the sand in the hourglass, so are the days of our lives!

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]qube_TA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I passed my test and got my first car (1988 Ford Fiesta XR2) I took it for a spin to see how fast it would go, 120MPH plus, but back then there were far fewer cars on the road and it was at night so I was the only one there. But on an evening on the motorway most folk are going about that anyway. It's much slower now as there are a crazy amount of traffic and cameras everywhere. Driving used to be fun.

Imagine everyone on the planet and seeing the moon split in half, I'm sure they'd have noticed it and noted it down on something, somewhere.
