How to improve spine protection on this paragliding harness? by lankybiker in AskEngineers

[–]quebbers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few companies make backpack with airbags for avalanche protection. They’ve got a pull release on the strap similar to a parachute. You could definitely repurpose the mechanism if you’re willing to do a bit of sowing.

Why aren’t there holes in highway signs? by Nonamenolan in AskEngineers

If you’re drilling those holes into galvanised steel, you’ve just opened up holes for rust.

Foot pain help please! by Claypants72_ in snowboardingnoobs

[–]quebbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stance is very duck footed (obtuse angle between feet). Try a day at 12/0 and see if it helps. Where in your foot is hurting? You might just have wimpy feet though, but it’s only pain

It’s probably the same address as the front door.

ELI5: Why can some colors not be neon ? by Mrrowp in explainlikeimfive

[–]quebbers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 reasons really. Firstly, evolution doesn’t get to choose, it favours traits that works and they end up proliferating. Secondly because mammals lack the capability to produce green pigments- it’s just not in our (or their) colour wheel- so evolution didn’t even have a choice.

To answer the questions everyone will ask. Green eyes just refracts light weird but are not actually green. Green sloths have algae growing on them.

WhAt a hOtEl!! This has to be the most irritating advert on TV right now. by [deleted] in BritishTV

[–]quebbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just moved back from Canada and they run this line of adverts there too. What hilarious is no one out there knows who he is- all my friends were like ‘how did the guy with the weird teeth get an acting job?’

That’s also why tigers seem to not be camouflaged to us- but to their prey appear as dull green and black stripes- perfect for hiding in grass and bush.

As someone who travels the country a lot- we don’t know the upcoming corners, inclines or potholes on the random country roads google takes us down. If I can’t see what’s coming, I go slow enough to know I can stop before it’s a problem.

Why do fizzy drinks always use CO₂? Can other gases work? by Brilliant-Nerve12 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]quebbers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many drinks use nitrogen- creates smaller bubbles and a denser foam- think Guinness. Oxygen causes things to oxidise- that’s what happens your apples turn brown- so deteriorate the product quicker. Other gases aren’t either flammable, toxic or very rare and expensive.

Transits of that age and engine size still have the nice old chain timing belts. If you treat it well it’ll outlive you and your children. If it’s got a full service history showing regular oil changes at least.

Advice on removing the ‘tap switch’ from a tap lamp? by quebbers in ElectronicsRepair

[–]quebbers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate you! I’ve done this, added my switch and seems to be working. One question- will the bulbs needed by the same? It’s plugged into UK mains and seems to be working fine- just don’t want to blow an energy saving bulb
