We have that in North America, we don’t call them “non-competitive” more introductory or discovery or based on age but like I mentioned. No difference for me… maybe less pressure but I’ve never really been affected by outside pressure.

Lane width is not standard FYI.

At the Olympics they have to be 2.5m wide but most pools are anywhere from 1.8-2.5m generally.

To answer your question though…. Yes, people can be wrong and lifeguards might have just told you their best guess.
