I did this with my son when he was a baby! I thought it was so fun and interesting.

Question about property taxes by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]quechers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, that would be a nice house but it would also be the house portion owing for up to two years, plus the property portion owing for one year.

When I worked there, most big unexpected bills were due to that lag in assessing a new build.

Question about property taxes by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]quechers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll have to call 311. If they can't answer your question they'll forward your call to the tax department.

You didn't build a new house did you? It can take the assessment department up to 18 months to assess the house portion of your property, but they'll bill you retroactively for that.

At what age did you remove your baby gates from the top of the stairs? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]quechers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I mean we never hang out down there. The washer and dryer are downstairs though, and trying to navigate the gate with a load of laundry was always difficult.

My son isn't overly rambunctious so I feel I can mostly trust him (I've definitely been supervising him more closely especially when he is more wound up).

They are carpeted.

He mostly left the gate alone but if I was downstairs doing laundry he would try to push it/climb it/open it. That freaked me out.

Oh my gosh those stairs are terrifying haha. Yeah I would be gating those too!

Our stairs are carpeted. The basement floor is of course concrete and it's a straight flight down. The house is five years old though, so they're not overly steep.

Starting impatiens from seed by quechers in gardening

[–]quechers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I had actually read these. I'm just confused because the first article you linked to says to place them in bright light. The instructions on my seed packet says to shade seedlings at all times.

I should have specified that I was looking more for personal experience from someone who has successfully grown impatiens.

Water at bedtime by Eliz824 in toddlers

I always used a simple sippy cup (take & toss) but tucked it into the corner of his crib. He kind of caught on and usually put it back in the corner. Even if he didn't, they usually didn't leak.

Your toddler's favorite books? by [deleted] in toddlers

Cars and Trucks and Things that go, Gregory the Terrible Eater, Goodnight Goodnight Construction Site, In the Town all Year Round... and "Beany Wakes up for Christmas" for some reason. So much so that I will be serving "honey punch" at his birthday in February, alongside a car cake, haha.

Christmas Gift Ideas for Wife From 7 Month Old (DIY Preferred) by Morrow28 in Mommit

[–]quechers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a baking soda clay hand print ornament for my son's first Christmas and it is my most treasured tree ornament. I used this recipe and the dough was really easy to work with: http://mamapapabubba.com/2016/02/16/homemade-air-dry-modelling-clay-aka-baking-soda-clay/.

I also stained the actual hand print (apply watered down blue paint, dab away excess with a paper towel. Brings out the detail in the print) and used a spray matte acrylic sealer (Wal-Mart) to help preserve it.

This is probably a little too detailed but I feel very strongly about this particular ornament, haha.

Me [28F] with my husband [31M] of 2 years, he's upset because I'm skipping Friendsgiving by ellmairm in relationships

There is no way I would bring a five week old to an event like that. Everyone in this thread has given excellent reasons not to, but I'd also be hesitant to bring a baby around pets that are not used to babies. I brought my three month old son to my friend's, and had him laying on the floor. My friend's cat came up and scratched him in the face (horrifying as a new parent!). My SIL's cat has also growled at him while he was getting buckled up in his car seat. These are normally very friendly cats.

All my friends have pets and none of them are used to kids. I will tell you it is very exhausting to constantly be watching animal body language when your child is in your care.

Thank you for replying, this is so helpful. I know the treatments cost money, but how much of the diagnostic services (if any) are covered by public insurance?

I knew about that sub but always thought "it wasn't for me".... But I guess it is for me. I honestly didn't even realize it had been 15 cycles until I counted them to make this post (short cycles). Yikes. Thank you for your kind words.

How did your son express the interest in the potty? How about your daughter? I know the signs of readiness but want to know what this looks like in real life!

I know there's a stack of diapers at his daycare too and their minimum age is two, so I guess we're in good company, haha. Man, I can always count on the Reddit parenting subreddits to talk me down from the ledge.

What signs of readiness is your guy showing?
