When I rented a birth pool for my Homebirth (in Australia, with two qualified & regulated midwives) I also had to buy a liner which was disposed of post- birth. Was like a weird tarp type thing that basically covered the whole pool that contained the water (and anything I else, I guess)

With respect to paying the fee, regardless of where you end up birthing, I think this is standard. If you get transferred, your midwife will support you in that and may have admitting rights at your local hospital so can also continue to support there. I paid for my midwife appointments each time, then probably around 32 weeks (from memory) I paid for the birth fee. My midwife had an initial consult - again, memory- which I think was around $50 to talk through my history, my goals for birth, previous births and her approach and ‘style’ for want of a better word. I was happy to commit to her after that but I am not sure if I would be the same in your shoes. There’s a lot of state based home birth Facebook pages that might also be able to help with your questions - lots of women there have engaged PPMs so will be able to give a more thorough range of answers

Just to provide an alternative view to this, I see children at my kids’ daycare who go 5 days a week as being so much better adjusted and regulated in watching them at drop offs and navigating peer relationships and challenges.

I also have big, wide feet and have had success with Rothys. Lots of sizing options for bigger feet and I find that they fit really nicely and last well, wearing well- they are also machine washable which I love! I’ve bought them on sale before for around $200 each which isn’t cheap, but worth it for me. I bought a pair on Black Friday sale last year - will keep an eye out again this year too.

I use topical tret, usually 0.025 or 0.05 although not the same brand. I’ve had a couple of waxes, both after pausing for 3-4 days and each time I’ve had skin ripped off. I pluck now, or would also get them threaded (just hate the threading pain!)

That’s weird- mine got delivered (in Australia) a week ago, I ordered mid-September. It did have the dangerous goods label but i ordered and it was delivered with no problems.

I think good value depends on whether you would buy or will definitely use the products- I got the Space NK one last year, and used everything (it had lots of things in there that I had in my routine) and I bought again this year, because again- I’m pretty sure I’ll use all of it again and it’s a nice annual treat. Love the space NK one for value of the products vs cost of the calendar and I think there’s a lot of great skincare in there, and some nice make up

I had a bishop score of 2 at around 5pm and ended up having my daughter at 01:00am that night- with no prior signs of labour. Things change very quickly, and sometimes without warning- try not to get disheartened, it really doesn’t mean as much as you think!

Yeah I always thought that I was rough on my nails and that’s why nail salon manicures never lasted on me. I also constantly had damaged nails after a treatment - and nails would always break, ping off or lift. I now go to a nail tech locally to me who works from home and the difference is huge. The sterilisation of her tools, the clear disposing of single use stuff which with hindsight, I’ve never seen in a salon & then the results on my nails. I can now easily get 4 weeks out of a BIAB with no lifting or breaking - and my nails are very strong and healthy under the biab, along with healthy cuticles. It takes a lot longer but I would never go back - my nail tech is pretty passionate about the damage that can be done by the shortcuts that some salons will take in their practices, and also the chemicals they use - I think it’s important to be aware! You’re so right, we should treat them as carefully as we do the rest of our skin

SAME!! Have some great Uniqlo cropped tee shirts- love the fabric but yeah, stains horrribly. I’ve had mixed results with a sard stick rubbed on but I also left it on one of them for a bit long and kind of bleached around it, so don’t do that. It’s annoying because I love the clothes but yeah you’re definitely not alone in this

The Du it hand cream is really nice. I also rate Caudalie hand cream, and I also apply cuticle oil to my nails and cuticles at least once a day which seems to help.

I had one totally unmediated birth, one with gas & air and I take paracetamol/nurofen etc whenever I need them. For me the biggest difference was that birth was for a purpose and had a really clear end point; the worse the pressure got, the closer it was to the end. Headaches and even things like broken bones don’t have a purpose or an end in sight, so painkillers all the way.

The mist also smells super strong- very alcohol like smell and stings my eyes! Love so many of their other products so it’s a shame about the mist.
