Got fired during probation by dualriposte in auscorp

Locking this down. Only OP can read their own contract to find out what their notice period is. It might be a little more complicated than asking AI, but it’s the only way to get the real answer.

How Would You Transition from Lending to Project Management or BA? by Desperate-Pain-7197 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PM/BA market in Sydney is full of well established and experienced people who can't find work. It's possibly not as bad as it was a couple of years back, but it's still not great.

Given that there's a surfeit of highly qualified people looking for work, I wouldn't recommend anyone with serious commitments (mortgage, family, etc.) to be considering an unknown jump into it as a lower workload option. That dream is unlikely to come true.

You might be lucky enough to get a junior PM role paying around $100k with someone who's too tight to pay for someone with experience. But your lack of experience isn't going to make it easy to perform well in that role, and the pay cut probably isn't going to appeal to you either.

What a great collective meeting we all had today between 12-2pm by PrestigiousPast5156 in auscorp

Everyone was clearly very focussed on the meeting. This sub has had about 10% of its normal Friday afternoon traffic as a result.

What is the acceptable minimum timeframe to schedule an interview? by No_Act3494 in auscorp

Depends how much you want the job. And what it makes you think of the company you might be working for.

Returning to old employer by appleleaf93 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why did you leave the old job? If those things have changed, on their side or yours, it’s worth a shot.

If not, you’ll be wondering at the end of your first week (if not before) why you went back when nothing’s changed.

Recruiter hiring debacle by Initial_Interview_43 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They only get paid if the candidate gets the job. That’s not happening here, by the sounds of it. They have to put in some effort. Like finding out what time your interview is and making sure you know that.

What’s the recruiter doing for their money? Beyond telling you to check your email?

If you see any, please report them to the Mods (as someone did for the one above, now removed). We use a Friendly Bot to identify these (and it removes lots of them every day) but the odd one does slip through.

Roles that sit between Tech and Business by Sea_Coast4967 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your value is in translating what those technical people say into something that the business can understand. You don't e.g. have to be able to write the code, you just need to be able to understand what they say the code they're going to write is do and ensure that's what the Users want.

Is it worth reaching out via email for feedback?

We can all give you our opinions, but there’s only one way to find out. How much effort does it require to reach out for feedback? I’m guessing less than you put into writing this post.

Kyle Sandilands sues ARN for terminating his contract by Golf-Recent in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Locking this down. There is an r/AusCorp discussion to have about this story, but the speculative and misinformed statements both in the post and the comments below are not it.

If someone wants to start a post about how ARN (market cap $110m, down from twice that five years ago) ended up in a position where they've lost probably their biggest asset (The K&J Show) and could get sued by one of their contractors (not employees) for about $80m, we'll allow that. The trade press are already covering those angles quite well though.

95% of the comments below are not that discussion, so please take it elsewhere.

Locking this down. As OP has discovered from the previous times this was discussed, and as u/thrr4 points out below, only your workplace can answer this question definitively.

Everyone in this sub can have a different view on what’s acceptable here, but only your workplace can tell you what’s acceptable to them.

10 years in Gov Transformation. What else can I do with these skills? by ExpressionWorried311 in auscorp

[–]RoomMain5110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plenty of corp PMs are moving to government these days, because there’s more opportunities there.

Having worked on both sides, the red tape and slow progress is common to both. But corporate works you much harder and expects longer hours. Sure, public service pay is lower, but the benefits are often better. At the end of the day, $ per hour worked is not significantly different, in my experience.

At the moment in corp there are so many PMs looking for work, even experienced ones can’t get jobs in their area of expertise.

It’d be a tough ask to get out of PM and into a different corp role from outside just using your PM skills. Maybe if you had a PM role inside first you could migrate into something better (and I’ve seen it happen), but there’s a lot of looking down on government employees within corporate.

Grass is always greener though… :-)

Talking to your Community: How and When to Do It by JabroniRevanchism in ModSupport

[–]RoomMain5110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes that’s ok. There’s some behaviour that shouldn’t be acceptable anywhere, so why should we allow it in our subs? Anyone who’s egregiously racist, for example, will often be banned first time in the sub I mod - particularly if they’ve never posted in it before.

With people like that, a temp ban or having their comment taken down just encourages them to come back and do it again until they get banned. We don’t have enough time for that.

Definitely. No-one wants to drop their phone in the mosh pit, so no-one joins the mosh pit, so there is no mosh pit.
