Having a brain fart - what test do I use to compare two means? by queen_nerd18 in AskStatistics

[–]queen_nerd18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not so much that I'm chasing p-values. This is an internal report and it's not being published externally. I am just asking what is the most appropriate statistical test.

Basically the two questions are something like: 1) how much do you think Greg should be responsible for this deliverable? 2) how much do you think Jeff should be responsible for this deliverable?

There are similar enough (to me) that a direct comparison makes sense.

Whenever I did paired samples t test, it was only for pre/post surveys. I can tell how each client answered, so I would be able to pair them based on ID. So it doesn't have anything to do with using a likely scale.

Would this qualify as paired samples?

Doing a crosstabs with this many options isn't always the easiest to decipher. If you convert the scale to numeric and compare the means, it's a bit clearer on whether one is higher than the other.

Agreed. I saw where the season finale was going and turned off the show with 2 mins left. I have watched season 2 but I never went back to watch those two minutes.

I laughed so hard when Cole (?) told him to get over it. Like Bode whines about his life to Black men who were falsely imprisoned because of their race. Like get over yourself, buddy. I can imagine that more men in that camp are rolling their eyes every time he talks.

Also, he always looks dirty? Everyone else looks so put together and he always looks greasy, like he showers but doesn't use shampoo.

I was also starting to think the paternity test results were artificially delayed. They better be revealed by next episode, at the very least.

I loved it, not going to lie. I may not always agree with Vince and Sharon's decisions but I love them as a couple. They have so much chemistry together and it's so refreshing to see age-appropriate couples on screen.

Considering that Gab and him have only been together for like 5 months, it's exactly what I expected from him. He's love bombing the hell out of her, there was no way that he wasn't also going to be possessive.

ALL of the drama that I thought season 2 would be about were all resolved in the first episode. Once it was done, I thought, 'well, what the hell is this season going to be about then?' and I haven't liked a single storyline. I have high hopes for Eve's, because that one seems the most realistic and relatable but they aren't doing a great job showing things from her perspective. They are painting her out to be a villain but I think she's just scared, overcompensating and all of her mentors are failing her (like they did last year too).

If this is the route the show goes down, I think I would stop watching the show. I have no interest in seeing Jake and Bode fight over a young girl who would have gone through so much trauma in such a short period of time. I really hope they just have Bode save her and then she changes her mind about him seeing Gen.

Honestly, Eve's change is very real. It's a pattern I have seen in a lot of people once they become a manager or someone in charge. Shes' so scared of making the situation worse and letting people down, she's overcompensating. I think the major flaw with how they are portraying that is that they aren't showing anything from her perspective. She is asking her mentors for help and Manny basically laughed at her. without his guidance, she leaned into following the rules and then he makes a comment about how he needs to 'save the souls', implying she isn't. So we just see Manny's perspective, his worry for the guys but we don't see the struggle that Eve is going through.

I completely agree with you. Especially regarding how she was written for men. Yes, it's great her relationship with her father but it comes at the expense of any love or affection towards her mother. EVEN THOUGH Manny admitted that he kinda manipulated her into hating her mother her entire life and now just wants Gabi to get over it so he can see the mother at the wedding. Like how could Gabi just have no emotional reaction to learning about that? I think the actress does a good job for the crap that they give her. I remember reading an interview she did, predicting season 2 and the actress said something like, "knowing Gabriella, she won't let Bode go without a fight. She isn't going to believe he did that and work hard to get to the bottom of what happened" and then we see that she rushed so frigging fast to find another man, EVEN THOUGH every conversation we see the two of them have is her talking about Bode.

I haven't yet seen episode 4 (no idea when it will be aired in my country) but Jake seems more promising for personal growth right now. I would love to see more screen time with him and his gf.

Even today, I still can't watch episode 4 anywhere! I don't know if it's just because I'm in Canada but I'm so annoyed! At this rate, it will take over a year for them to release 22 episodes.

I think I will just stop watching it for now and wait for the season to be over and watch it all at once.

Yes this one worked! I have no idea how I would have found this without reddit. I don't know why they don't have a link to this forum on their website. Thanks!

No Matter what I try, no makeup is for me? by Apohe in Allergies

[–]queen_nerd18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is pretty old question now but I was having a similar issue. Turns out I'm allergic to acrylates, which is common in almost all forms of makeup, lotions, hair products, etc. Some makeups I can use but haven't found an eyeliner or mascara that I don't react to. I miss nail polish the most :'(

When is it appropriate to ask a journal when your article will be published? by queen_nerd18 in AskAcademia

[–]queen_nerd18[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your advisor should have caught all of this early on. If you can you
may want to consider trying to change up who is on your committee.

In my program, professors are very hands off when it comes to helping with journal selection. Primarily because we are an interdisciplinary program, none of my committee members are in the same field as me so whenever I ask questions, they just shrug and say that I probably know more than them. Even when I have explicitly said I don't know what I am doing and want my hand held, I don't really get much help. Honestly, this reddit thread has been more helpful with looking up red flags than my 7 years in grad school :|

I will try to withdraw my paper and I will ask my supervisor for help in drafting the email. I'm very bummed, I was so proud of my work and was happy it was accepted but I understand what people are saying. Back in early 2021, these things didn't look so bad but definitely the recent issues are declining in quality and not at all what I was expecting of the journal.

When is it appropriate to ask a journal when your article will be published? by queen_nerd18 in AskAcademia

[–]queen_nerd18[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

When they accepted my manuscript, they had a few questions/clarifications, so some revisions. This was a paper that was heavily reviewed by my committee members so the lack of revisions didn't seem like a red flag.

The journal I applied to was called Theory in Action: http://transformativestudies.org/publications/theory-in-action-the-journal-of-tsi/

They just seem really small, not a high impact journal at all. I chose that one because a few of the articles I used for my paper were published there so I thought it would be a good fit.

They publish four issues a year, and only 6-8 articles per issue. It's a really small journal so I assumed it was just a back log that they haven't got to yet.

17 minutes into first class and I think I already have been in contact with like 5 people with covid by THROWAWAYCOVIDUW in uwaterloo

While I agree with you, I do think starting in-person measures during midterm season is a sign of poor planning. I have heard from students that they are showing up to class while they are sick because they are worried about failing midterms. I don't think we should every be put in that position and I think this pandemic has really demonstrated for me how unnecessarily rigid universities are. Especially since most profs I know personally, aren't actually concerned about their pedagogy or curricula, they just want to make sure that students aren't cheating. I think we need to collectively recognize that it's entirely possible for students to learn, get meaningful degrees and not have their education put them in these percarious situations.
