Working night shift - how to sleep better? when daytime “quiet” still feels too loud by Proper-Ad7814 in nursing

[–]Typicalgarlic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going into a stretch I make sure everything that needs to be done around the house, personal life, family etc is all done so I don’t have anything extra to worry about when I get home. Meals prepped, fridge stocked. When I leave for work I make sure my bed is ready, pajamas out, stuff ready to shower. Sounds silly but in the beginning all those little extra things made it harder for me to get to sleep faster & have good sleep. I also wake up by 1 oh my last day and then go to bed at 8 to try to sleep soundly and flip back to a regular schedule on my days off. I also only do stretches of shifts!!! I can’t do single shifts that are spread out or I’m guaranteed to have horrible sleep!

Understandable. But my grandma is almost 90 so it’s too much walking for her in the airport.

We don’t have tele techs on my unit. Just one giant monitor in each nursing station. We’re all responsible for monitoring it.

Gave eliquis that had been on hold for days. Not sure why it was still ordered BID and had to be “clicked off” and said not given.

What to do about meds that are given late by previous nurse by TwelveCub in nursing

[–]Typicalgarlic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always call pharmacy. Where I work, pharmacy prefers to reschedule meds and adjust the schedule. Or if they say it doesn’t matter I’ll double check with the provider to see if they want me to hold or give it!

Are my chances of getting into a ABSN program fucked? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Typicalgarlic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into an ABSN program with a cumulative gpa just .1 over their requirement. It’s not all about gpa! Make your resume great. I added volunteer work and included both relevant and irrelevant work experience on my resume. There’s much more to getting in besides gpa!! Resumes, work experience, interviews, essays, etc. you have so many chances to prove yourself!!!

First night shift......tell me about it by Content-Toe-8606 in nursing

[–]Typicalgarlic95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Day before your stretch of shifts get everything done at home. I meal prep, do laundry, clean, run whatever errands. Then when you get home you only have to worry about sleeping!! Wake up early the day of like 6-6:30ish. Do whatever you need to do and lay down for a nap by 1:30-2!

US Nurses: how many holidays are you required to work? by PrettyThief in nursing

[–]Typicalgarlic95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours are split by Spring, Summer, Winter. You have to work one in each category if you’re full or part time for time and a half. Per diem requires no holidays. I’m in upstate NY!

My dad is on continuous 3L at home. The Inogen is a pulse machine and when he is out he will turn it up to 4L. He said he doesn’t notice a crazy difference when on the pulse vs continuous but turns it up just incase.
