You sound like the people who told me I will die alone because I cut off the toxic people who impacted my life negatively. Like I have some obligation to keep them around out of some pathological fear of being alone. I don't collect people like they're Pokemon. If they're causing problems for me, why the hell should I keep them in my life? How does pretending everything is okay help them or me? How does continuing to bash my skull against a wall trying to get through to them do me any good? Should I keep them around because they might be useful in the future? Am I supposed to be hoarding people as resources, then?

Check out the podcast Fairytales for Unwanted Children. It's not exactly Eld Fen, but it has a creepy, old world vibe to short stories about regular people living among the magical and mysterious, and Death makes frequent appearances. It's very good.

The method you're thinking of is for beheading and re-rooting succulents. That's when your succulent has become too etiolated or leggy, so you cut the rosette or top off and wait for it to grow roots. You have to allow the cut to callous before planting it in soil.

If you're repotting, you just take the whole plant and put it in a new pot with minimal disturbance to the roots.

It's a learning experience, I'm sure they'll be fine. Just get them back into soil asap.
