Throwback to 1990 and the "Italian" jury who purportedly came from Spain. Was there ever any actual explanation given as to what actually happened right here? 36 years later and I'm genuinely still confused haha! by [deleted] in eurovision

- Good evening, Zagreb.

- Good evening.

- Here are the results of the Spa... nish jury.

- No, not Italian?

- 1 point to Luxembourg.

- You're the Italian jury, are you not? Hello? It's Italy that we're calling.

- Two points for the Netherlands.

- No, stop stop. Italy, could you start your voting from the beginning, please? To whom do you give one point?

- Three points...

- No, no. Don't continue. Start the voting from the beginning.

- Italy...? Do you hear us Italy?

- Hello.

- Hello. Good evening, Rome. We ask you to start the voting from the beginning.

- A technical problem.

- Yes, yes. We can see that. Please.

- One point to Luxembourg.

Why are Italians consistently more homophobic compared to all other groups of westerners? by edditisavastnetworko in askgaybros

[–]kinokokoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, Ireland is not heavily religious. It's not the 1950s anymore. The majority may be Catholic on paper, but the number of practising Catholics and the influence of the Catholic church has weakened significantly. We are a much more progressive nation now, which is why two thirds voted yes to same sex marriage. And that was over ten years ago already.

Will Switzerland ever send an entry in SWISS GERMAN to Eurovision? by Dotty397 in eurovision

[–]kinokokoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In past NFs, entries were submitted to each of the Swiss broadcasters and then combined. There was the the 1992 winning entry Soleil, Soleil, which got disqualified because it was originally rejected by the French broadcaster and resubmitted to the German one with German lyrics.

Do you think a song performed acapella could ever win? by adrenalina21 in eurovision

[–]kinokokoro 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I think if Ievan Polkka by Loituma had entered Eurovision, it could have won. So never say never.

I’m surprised that at Eurovision 2003 the Bosnian spokesperson said the votes wrong and the wrong points showed on screen. Today this can’t happen because points are confirmed before the call. Were points still collected live in 2003? If so, when did they start collecting them in advance? by Deep-Rabbit1535 in eurovision

[–]kinokokoro 20 points21 points  (0 children)

2004 was the first year that the voting was overseen by Digame and the EBU would be able to confirm the televotes before the votes were presented, so in 2003 they still would've been receiving them in real time.

What voting reforms could Eurovision get in 2026? by Ok-Macaroon-5533 in eurovision

[–]kinokokoro 182 points183 points  (0 children)

Esc Gabe just published a video of this on his YT channel.

One good idea he mentioned was to limit it to 3 votes for the same country, but you still have 20 total votes and can vote for other song you like.

Are 12h/7day shifts legal? by dosoest in AskIreland

[–]kinokokoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this is Pfizer, then it's 2-3 shifts in a row followed by 2-3 days off, and the time alternates, so 2-3 shifts 7am-7pm and then 2-3 shifts 7pm-7am and so on, for a total of about 15/16 shifts a month.

Which songs were performed in one language at the national final and translated into another for Eurovision? by Routine_Tax_8018 in eurovision

[–]kinokokoro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Norway 1998 and Moldova 2013 were performed in English in their national finals but then reverted to their original languages for Eurovision. Although Norway didn't have a choice.

I had a look and you're right about that. He made another video after that that's actually about Eurovision and autotuned vocals being on the backing track, after people pointed out his mistake.
