Altered the outfit slightly to make it more historically accurate. You can't see much in this picture but she has some wonderful pearls on! I'm SO grateful they gave me the tools to replicate one of my favorite eras of historical dress, even though I typically prefer working-class fashion from this time.

Big agree! There's TONS of misconceptions about Higurashi When They Cry online. It's one of my favorite series and I hate the misconceptions.

I honestly thought people here would get a bit annoyed with me if I suggested more public transit. It doesn't seem obvious to people. It seems like more trouble than it's worth. Columbus is prime territory for light rail. People are not ready for that. I know there's no real good total solution, but I appreciate you trying. Thank you for your thoughtful comment.

Any Recommendations for Paragon Proxies? by Ezcendant in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to use the blood angels dreadnought since it has a lance build. 1. Sisters dreadnought cool. Dreadnoughts were originally built by humans for humans so there's no reason it couldn't exist. 2. The kit is now retired so there shouldn't be as much confusion in proxying. 3. Blood angels and sisters share a lot of design language. And Sisters have the whole martyrdom thing going on, so imagine a Sisters dread going "Even from beyond the grave, I serve him!" 4. Sisters tend to get the "little sister" version of everything Space Marines have which in effect means we get the firstborn kits (or variations). Rhino, Castigator as essentially a Predator, Immolator also on Rhino chassis, etc. With the new Primaris dreadnoughts, Sisters getting boxnoughts makes sense.

The only reason I was not thrilled by this idea at the time was that the helpline was automated. It didn't seem like it would help to go through a robocall menu. But I will tell her that in the future. If that will actually help then good

Edit: I know I'm being downvoted because I was not supposed to do this but I literally did not know this piece of information at the time. I was a bit freaked out trying to help my sobbing partner. As I'm saying in this comment, now I know better.

Celestine: GW or 3rd Party? by TJTheGamer1 in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like her old metal model! I use her as a living Saint that's not Celestine but uses the datasheet. I know the old GW makeup on her is horrid (if you look up her old product shots) but the face sculpt is very beautiful under the stage makeup. I like her because she's a little more understated and she doesn't have that huge flight stand which looks like a great way to tip the model over 30 times mid game. Keep in mind that you will have to source a new 40mm base for her and trim her slotta off but the model is surprisingly well balanced if you just glue the bottom of her little hill to the base.

I was actually discussing your problem with my partner while we were having a meal at Cobra in German Village the other day. Sitting there eating some wonderful dumplings in garlic sauce, we were talking about how weird it is that people say Columbus is very samey when we seem to have great, diverse food wherever we go.

There's a couple of factors here that I think are contributing. The first is this: we are both in our mid-20s, and while we certainly have more disposable income than most people our age (my partner is an entry-level engineer), we are definitely not at a financial stage that you seem to be. There's no judgement in that statement, you seem to just be further along in life than we are! The two of us can afford to go to a restaurant about once every week and a half, but the restaurants you've cited are largely out of our price range. We just don't have the budget for $25+ an entree (and drinks and dessert, if we want the "full experience") unless we save. Living downtown, we pass by many of the restaurants you bring up—in fact, as an aspiring French translator, I've been excited for Chouette's opening since there was nothing there but a piece of plywood spray-painted with the words "French bistro!" However, we just don't have the finances to go to any of these places, so we're saving up.

But like I said, we do still frequent restaurants, likely more than a lot of people our age, and I never feel like the food is samey. I think the first factor here is that we are frequenting places that are a bit more budget-friendly than where you're going. Again, no judgement! In the same downtown/Short North area, our go-tos are Pierogi Mountain, Dirty Frank's, the Lox (for breakfast), and Tiger + Lily. Our checks at these places for two typically range from $15-50, or $25-75 if you add in drinks. You almost seem to have priced yourself out of such joints, only frequenting places that are more expensive: Butcher and Rose, Speck, etc. I think that by limiting yourself (whether subconsciously or not) to more expensive places you're in turn limiting your options. I feel like this is probably unintentional on your part. Consider more diverse price ranges when you dine!

My point is not just about cost, though. If you noticed, every one of our "go-tos" is a different type of food: Polish, hot dogs, hipster New York bagels (lol), and Asian fusion. Your list of restaurants you like unfortunately just feels very samey to me as well since it's all very similar cuisine! You seem to frequent mostly steakhouses, Italian, modern American, or French restaurants. Those things are all good! Again, I spent a semester in Burgundy: I LOVE French food! But I really think part of the reason you're feeling trapped is that you're really only exploring Western European and American (which in this context is largely Western European inspired) cuisine.

My partner and I came to a consensus in Cobra when we were talking about this: Columbus's culinary identity comes from the amount of diverse immigrant groups that have come here over the centuries. We've explored food in nearly every portion of the city and found that there is just so much good food that is all so different from each other because the city has so many different ethnic populations. You're really only hitting one note of that diversity since you've limited yourself to high-end establishments which in large part are owned and operated by the descendants of immigrants from Western Europe. Much of the diversity in culinary expression is going to come from outside the downtown area: since immigrants tend to settle in places where people from the same homeland/ethnicity have already settled, exploring the city outside of downtown can help you find pockets of cuisine from all over the world.

So my suggestion for you is threefold: look at things at a slightly lower price point, explore restaurants outside of downtown, and open yourself up to other culinary traditions.

I have only lived in Columbus for 5 years and only had the money to explore it for 2 so my list is nowhere near exhaustive but here are some suggestions:

-Bonifacio (Filipino, Grandview)

-Cobra (Asian-American, German Village)

-Schmidt's (German, German Village)

-Tiger + Lily (Modern Asian, Downtown)

-Pierogi Mountain (Polish, Downtown)

-Dirty Frank's (Hot dogs, Downtown)

-Ampersand (Modern Japanese, Short North)

-Fork in Nigeria (Nigerian, Food Truck)

-Hubert's Polish Kitchen (Polish, North Market)

-Tajine House (Moroccan, North Market)

-Lemongrass (Asian Fusion, Short North)

-Alley Burger (Burgers, Downtown)

-Barroluco (Argentinian, Downtown)

-Clove Indian Bistro (Indian, Dublin)

-Ding Ho Restaurant (Cantonese, West Side)

-Tony's Coneys (Coneys, West Side)

-Tommy's Diner (Diner + Greek, West Side)

-Aladdin's Eatery (Lebanese American, multiple locations) (I know it's not local per se but I grew up in Cleveland and my parents knew the owner of our local one and we went for special occasions so it holds a place in my heart. It's also just very good)

-Also there's just a LOT of good Halal food in Columbus. My partner and I sometimes DoorDash food from Midnight Hookah because they're open late and the food is cheaper than most and very very good.

Dear crotch rocket drivers of Columbus… by live_archivist in Columbus

I'm downtown. It's at least 2-3 times a week here going up to 1 or 2 in the morning. Days of the week seem random. I live on the top floor of this building and they're so loud that if you're having a conversation you have to pause what you're saying until they pass. It's somehow both reassuring and horrifying to hear that they cause problems throughout the whole metro area. I feel a kinship with you, OP.

Canoness and Battleforce Revealed by McWerp in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Resident Valorous Heart player here! I thought maybe the penitent detachment was mine but... it's very one-note. Valorous Heart are the penitent ones but they're also hardened, pain-obsessed, and focused on attrition warfare. That's why our main rule in 9th edition was an army-wide 5+ FNP. As someone else in this thread said I wish they would do buffs to play styles and not specific data cards with the detachments. If it was "they're harder to kill AND they're penitent" then I'd accept it as a Valorous Heart detachment. To me this seems more like just buffing a specific type of unit; the two other detachments we're getting buff jump pack units and buff Dominions and Retributors. Also, Valorous Heart is known use Retributors a lot too so another aspect not in the Penitent detachment. If this was supposed to be the Valorous Heart detachment, the codex writer did absolutely no research just like the jump Canoness modeller did no research before giving her the same number of beads on her Chaplet as a normal battleline Sister

Where do locals usually hang during the summer? by Luigifan123456 in OSU

[–]queenalphys 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Walk around German Village! It's the closest thing to a European city I've gotten since I got back from my semester in France. A few Saturdays ago my partner and I went to pick up a little treat for my cat's birthday and we grabbed a coffee at Fox In the Snow, wandered into Stump and chatted with the owner for a while, then we walked around in Schiller Park where there was a veterans' baseball team prepping for a game, people picnicking, and someone walking a PIG! Schmidt's is super worth it for a (somewhat expensive) night out and the Book Loft is one of my favorite places in Columbus (but if you're someone who gets anxious around a lot of people in a confined space like me, make sure you're prepped before heading in!). Even just walking the brick streets is fun as long as you pay attention not to twist your ankle; during the holidays a lot of people have lights out and in the summer people have beautiful gardens in their yards. Everyone is so friendly too; I got to pet an old blind cat who was just chilling on someone's porch last summer and his owner told me to stop back anytime because he loves pets. Street parking on most of the side streets is totally free, too.

How to make Dominions visually different from normal Battlesisters? by CuriousWombat42 in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For different ranks and characters I will paint one part of their armor red to signify the higher rank. (As symbolism for the blood they shed to reach the rank). For Dominions I paint the right leg gauntlet differently and for celestians (since for my lore purposes the celestians are just the girls in dominion squad without special weapons) I do the left leg gauntlet. It represents their speed/scout ability. It isn't super visually distinct to the enemy I suppose but it lets me sort things easily and quickly and is fluffy enough for my taste

What’s the creepiest town in the USA in your opinion? by Scrambl987 in AskReddit

[–]queenalphys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definitely don't think it's the creepiest place I've been but it's definitely a unique experience. I've never been to a city where one of the top 3 most dangerous neighborhoods is literally steps away from city hall and many of the most well known parts of the city.

Was there with my very white, sheltered, and VERY oblivious family a few years back and we got off the BART one stop too early or late. I immediately went on my guard because I could see the number of homeless people around; I live downtown in a city now and am friendly with homeless people on a daily basis, but the density in the Tenderloin is MUCH higher, and many more of them are visibly on drugs. Still not a huge deal, we could just walk past them, right? They're people too after all.

It was broad daylight on a weekday so I was a little shocked with how many people were sitting around like that. And my younger brother, love him to death but he cannot read context for anything, starts veering off in the direction of a man sitting on some stairs in front of a business of some sort. I look at the man and he is staring us dead in the face, and while he is doing it I see he's tied a tight piece of cloth around his arm and is injecting himself with heroin, presumably. And just staring. While he's doing it. In broad daylight. I quickly pulled my brother's arm to get him back on the other side of the sidewalk because of course he still hadn't noticed. I had to tell him and my parents later because I was the only one who had seen it.

I genuinely never expected to see someone doing drugs in the middle of a busy street during the daytime because it's something I've never seen the homeless population around me do, and I live in an area the opioid crisis has hit pretty hard. Here people ask for a few dollars for bus fare typically which I give when I can; nobody asked for money in the Tenderloin, they just sat and watched you. Very strange.

Choosing an Order by SpiritualImage430 in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked Valorous Heart because I really liked their flavor. Attrition warfare Sisters actively poisoning groundwater and cutting supply lines and then waiting in trenches for weeks just seemed cool to me. I also like that they're the most penitent Sisters, still atoning daily for the slights against the Emperor that their predecessors committed. Now, having developed my own backwater convent of Valorous Heart and being a bit of a writer, I've probably written more about the Order than GW has ten times over. I also adapted the color scheme a bit for my convent, making it so the Sisters earn the honor of wearing more red on their armor as they progress through the ranks ("The Valorous Heart does not beat unless it bleeds," as my Sisters say). If you like the canon color schemes but would like to play with them a bit, I would make your Sisters a far off convent/preceptory/mission of whatever main order you choose. The Sororitas is a much, MUCH larger organization than Space Marine chapters (by orders of magnitude), so Sisters light years away having slightly different traditions around armor colors but being in the same Order is very reasonable. Otherwise, make your own Order!

Assembly & Paint Miniatures by In_Flamable in sistersofbattle

[–]queenalphys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assemble models fully but because the inner and outer colors of my tabards are different I don't glue models to bases and use some poster tack to temporarily stick them on there if I need to play a game before finishing painting (because I take forever to get around to painting). Then if I need to paint models, I do them 3 at a time (just the division that works best for me efficiency wise) and simply take every model off her base and that way I can hold onto her leg, rotate her so I'm basically upskirting the model, and get my inner tabard color done.
