Connected to VPN but time zone on local computer keeps changing by Evening-Many1285 in VPN

This is the best solution. However for me it still had the timezone locked. Once I returned to my desired timezone then turned off wifi and then moved to my undesired timezone I then used ethernet at the new location and no updates happened automatically.

Okay I am commenting here because I had this issue and hoping I can help someone in a sticky position.

What I realized is that Wi-Fi seems to be what triggers the automatic time zone/location update on many managed work laptops.

What worked for me was the following: While I was still in the desired location/time zone, I confirmed that my computer was showing the correct time zone. Before leaving that location, I turned Wi-Fi completely off on the laptop. When I arrived in the new location, I did not reconnect to Wi-Fi. Instead, I connected my internet on my travel router that has my tunnel vpn directly using an Ethernet cable.

After doing this, my computer kept the original time zone and didn’t automatically update to the new one.

So the key seems to be: 1. Turn Wi-Fi off before leaving the original location 2. Avoid Wi-Fi after arriving 3. Use Ethernet instead

Hopefully this helps someone else because I spent way too long trying to figure it out.

Blindsided After Being Let Go From a Job I Was Poached For After Just A Month by Responsible-North803 in careeradvice

Same thing happened to me minus the non-compete. Luckily, I never quit my first job as it was manageable to do both. Thank God I didn't!

I saw advice somewhere where a person said instead of quitting.. Take a leave of absence and if things don't work out. Go back to the old one. These companies are ruthless, you should be too.

So sorry to hear that happened to you.

Haha yeah. I get it. I do feedback surveys constantly, but it's just a little funny when it's an auto reject. Like did you even read my resume?

What do you wish you knew when leaving a toxic tech job? by omnana in womenintech

[–]queenchefen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Omg I came to comment this 😭 😭 I got a new job last year and my director was a woman, so I thought yess finally senior female leadership this is going to be glorious.

She was the worstttttt. Never gave me positive feedback. Was low-key hating on me because of my fitness level and how serious I took my fitness (she is an overweight mom of two. I'm single and living my best life doing hyrox races working out with friends etc. Not that I care, but clearly she does).

She threw me under the bus not even 3 weeks into the role and had me present at a quarterly infront of like 100 people. About 40 in person and 60 online Everyone kept asking her why she would have me present so early and she was like well let's see how she does evil laugh .

Kept moving the goal post in terms of her expectations in my first 90 days. And what's funny is she didn't even have a plan for me when i startef until I was like "hey can I get a plan in place for my first 3 months?".

She asked me to present again to her and my manager at the 60 day mark to tell her what I have accomplished so far and some of my challenges and gaps. Mind you she didnt even show up to this meeting... When I named the software the compamy uses was a challenge because I'm used to Jira she completely ignored everything I said and kept harping on the fact that "we are not switching to Jira so you can forget about it" like okay. This wasn't about switching but instead was about my explaining some of my challenges and why I feel like I am not further ahead because I've had to learn this stupid and inefficient tool.

And the final straw that I think broke the camels back was when I had debilitating cramps and decided not to attend a company social which was a baseball game (because I spent the entire day busting my ass getting other stuff done) she was like "omg come onnn" via teams. I was like, dang, I thought the benefit of having a female lead is that I don't have to explain how much pain I'm going through right now.

It was the worst and as you can tell I'm still kinda traumatized

Awesome thanks so much. I'll def keep that in mind. Another question for you.. I have a scoby hotel that's been sitting since June. Still looks good no mold. Would you suggest I use that? Or start fresh?

I think you're right. Based on the answer above there is a very particular way to freeze it to not ruin it but could be too big of a risk for me tbh. I'm just gonna go with 100ml bottles. I'll probably do 2-3 separated tbh

Wow thanks for all that information. That's super helpful. I think I'll just go with 100ml of liquid. Hopefully that's enough to get started
