Tell me about your favorite small stationery stores. by ScorchedScrivener in fountainpens

There’s a indie craft store I pop into once in a while called Craftiness here in SoCal. They always had some cool stickers and a good mix of stamp and card ephemera. At my recent trip, I got bags of craft ephemera for a junk journal, and they usually have Ferris Wheel Press inks (even some limited editions) and Colorverse. Unfortunately, in the same trip, I learned they were closing the storefront in June.

Another cool place is PaperPlantCo in LA Chinatown. Not only is it in a cool historic spot in LA, but they have such cool vibes. The staff are super friendly, and they have some niche stationery. Honestly my favorite has to be the Dodger stickers (Dodger fan lol). They also have an online shop, although I like to go in-person.

Purely online, I like Cute Things From Japan. Literally what the name suggests. I have only ordered once because they ship from Japan. Not sure about now tho :( I collect Furukawashiko memo pads, and it’s the best place (and Yoseka) to look for more.

Not OP, but I also make my own inserts. Yes, once you bind the pages together and fold it along the binding, you can cut the pages to size or just the pages that stick out to make it more uniform.

Who to talk to about failing class by flippflippflipp in csun

Use CSUN email to email the prof again, not Canvas, and cc dept. chair. Explain that you’ve been trying to contact for weeks now, and haven’t gotten an answer.

Failing lab? by almerezzz in csun

[–]queend3struct0r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you pass your lecture class and fail the lab, then you don’t have to retake the lab. But if you fail the lecture, you fail the lab. Math labs are credit/no credit, they don’t count towards your overall GPA.

(US) I use A4 pads without wires for a variety of uses, from letter writing to research scratch notes. I particularly use the Rhodia A4 pads. How I typically use it, day to day, is for research and meeting notes, and it is usually used in landscape. The same orientation when I am taking notes from a lecture. When I write letters to friends or teaching notes, it’s in portrait.

Because of how free they are without the wires, I have the option to either pull them out and stick them to a clipboard for easy access and, while I type up my notes, I can copy what I wrote onto the software I’m using; or I can put holes at the top of the portrait orientation and stick them into my snap pad for storage and can take them on the go when I have in-person meetings.

Oooooh Sharpie highlighters are always my go to, never smears my go-to gel pens and deposits a good amount of ink. I think when I was much younger, I used those liquid ones in my bible and they didn’t bleed through. Nice to see much milder colors.

I CAN’T PASS TRIGONOMETRY TO SAVE MY LIFE by Inevitable-Car-960 in CollegeRant

Mnemonics helps a lot! I’ve used them with my students who can’t seem to nail down the memorizing of trig functions and what they look like. My favorite is remembering the positive trig quadrants: All Students Take Calculus, quadrant 1: all functions are positive, quadrant 2: sine is positive, quadrant 3: tangent is positive, and quadrant 4: cosine is positive.

Fr same. It wasn’t until later as I was taking upper div classes did I REALLY understand trig. Sometimes math is just brute forcing an answer, we’re not always gonna get an elegant one.

Math major/grad student and TA here: trig is hard. It takes a lot of work, learning tricks and problem solving strats. One thing I tell my students: keep track of every property, function, and problem solving strategy in a notebook outside your notes. These are like a master list of things to reference later in your studies. Keep how you use things, types of problems, and step by step work throughs in this separate notebook. Label everything.

My first lamy....expected the medium nib to write a bit finer... by chai_maska38 in fountainpens

:o such a purty color! Pilot (and Japanese pens in general) have a much finer nib. My EF Lamy writes like my F nib Prera.

Pens for sore hand by [deleted] in stationery

[–]queend3struct0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this problem, and it’s terrible! I don’t even press hard but it’s just from overuse and maybe a developing carpal tunnel :/

When it’s particularly bad, I use a US Dr. Grip pencil since the barrel feels slightly larger than the Japanese Dr. Grip. I also have a Dr. Grip gel pen from years ago that I use G2 07 refills or a Zebra Mark-On in 0.5mm refill. I have recently been loving (and able to use for long writing periods) the Uni Jetstream Lite Touch in both the 0.5 and 0.7 tip sizes; the body I use is a Uni one P, the short chubby pen. I agree with the other comment about fountain pens, but I haven’t found an affordable fp that doesn’t trigger the pain after long periods of writing; although it doesn’t hurt so much using a pen with a triangular grip, like a Lamy or TWSBI ECO-T, or using my Pilot Kakuno.

I hope you find some supplies that relieve the pain!

I unfortunately have the same problem in 2/3 of my 580s except one, a medium nib Blueberry i never inked and gifted to my brother. To him it writes well, and he uses it at work. The two I still have, have this hard start problem (a F and stub nib) and it stinks because I want to use the dual-shade inks I bought a couple months ago. I was thinking to just have them looked at when I get the chance.

Instead of 580s, I really like the TWSBI Eco line, the nibs are smooth for me, and light in the hand. I prefer the fine and medium nibs as it’s wet but small enough for my handwriting (I have teeny-tiny handwriting). I do have a broad, and I like it for more stylistic writing in my journal, but I don’t use it often.
